Many of us are asking ourselves questions about how we will be able to present the magic we perform
in the new virtual shows. What magic effects will work in a virtual show? How do I need to modify
things? How do I move within the smaller frame of the camera? How do I make sure they can see what I
am doing? No one is in the room with me. Can I make it interactive?
How do I still convey my
character and magical moments?
Paul Draper addresses these questions and more in this
highly entertaining video where he not only tells you, but shows you by example using pieces he
performs in his many virtual shows.
I especially loved how he took lessons from the old
kids shows like blues clues and Mr Rogers on how to imagine what your audience is saying to create
the conversations that are so important to helping the audience to feel essential in co creating
your show.
He also went over ways to present mentalism effects so that things are visually
displayed to create a very good impression of fairness. This has been on my mind quite a lot lately
in terms of having to replace in person methods for non touch methods.
I have to say, I
was relieved to have this information because it will make all the difference for me in learning to
think out side of the box in ways that will not only enhance my virtual shows but improve the
stagecraft and character development in my in person shows by leaps and bounds.
If you are
doing virtual shows this is essential information.
My fear has subsided and I’ve got this.
Thank you Paul Draper a million times over.
