The Portal Production is a utility move from the mind of @sleightlyskilled. It can be used to produce pens, straws, wands, sharpies, and other similar items from seemingly nowhere. This is 100% sleight of hand with countless applications, perfect for adding to your arsenal of pen tricks.

This video tutorial gets straight to the point. I will cover the sleight itself, how to choose props, over the shoulder explanations, a bonus "signature" palm you can add to nearly any routine, as well as several tips and subtleties to make the effect look like real magic. I've also included a full vanish and production routine that is usable in real life, as well as a modified routine perfect for social media using a principle rarely seen in magic.

Skill level: Intermediate. You're gonna want to practice this one. This sleight of hand move that requires time to master but is within the grasp of most magicians.

I have been doing magic since I was a kid...60 years ago. While I had a good idea of what he must be doing, I could not see it despite watching his demo over and over again. He is that good!

So, I just had to get a hold of his explanation video and I am glad I did.

He has refined an old principal and made it his own and it is most definitely worth learning. There is nothing better than impromptu effects that do not require gimmicks or a complicated setup. You can do this anytime anywhere which is what makes it so useful and worth learning.

My faithful scribe Bogie B. Bogatte, one most unusual magic parrot, found SlightlySkilled on a magic Facebook page.

This is his first contribution to the Magic Community. I look forward to seeing much more from him....and I am sure he will not disappoint me.

I would highly recommend this to anybody who is first getting into Magic and would like to master an effect that uses sleight of hand. The basic moves are not complicated which is why this is good for a beginner. He won't become frustrated and give up. Once mastered, it will instill some confidence and lead him to move on to continue learning.

Ingenius and Effective — but Angle-Sensitive and Difficult Report this review

The Positive: It looks amazing, and in the right hands — at EXACTLY the right angle (or on camera) — it looks like real-life CGI. Also, you're getting more out of this than what you'll pay for it. He teaches at least three separate moves/principles.

The Negative: Realistically, most people would have a hard time getting comfortable with this, because it is highly angle-sensitive, and the moves are very knacky. This is the kind of thing that you can only perform for 1-5 people who are all directly in front of you — and even then, if you miscalculate or "stray from the path" by even a millimeter, what might have looked like a total miracle will instead look painfully stupid.

If you're the type who isn't afraid of performing bold, angle-sensitive sleight of hand that requires considerable practice, then the effect is absolutely worth it in this case. Performed correctly, it really does look exactly like you see it in the preview clip.

It's exactly what you thought! Report this review

Trick photography. ;)

It is what you thought, but with a tremendous amount of choreography. You are paying for that choreography and it is worth it, especially if you know how to flip stick :)

It's easy to do, but there will be a considerable amount of practice before you are performance ready.
