Used the prop for a Scout meeting and will use it again for a fire safety presentation. It book
ignited and caught fire, on cue. Every time.
The blank cover is easy to decorate with a
piece of paper, printed with your desired, perhaps themed title and adhered with some double-stick
tape.

Just a few notes to remember and forgive if this has been mentioned in earlier reviews; don't douse
the thing with too much fuel. One tablespoon, just before going on stage is plenty.
To
ignite properly, initiate the ignitor just as you open the book, the cover open just about 1". As
soon as it catches, open it fully and you can keep it flaming safely for no longer than 5 seconds
(which really is a long time) and then close the book. You will be able to get one more, but
smaller, ignition after that but if you plan on doing that, don't wait for too long or the remaining
fuel will evaporate.
Also, ditch the book after your show, especially if working with
children. They want to see it and play with it. Not a kid's toy by any means.

The book works great. I have only had it for a few days but it is easy to use. I can get 5 or 6 good
burns in a row. Sometimes a quick upward movement (about 2-4 centimeters) helps the ignition. The
main thing is to practice holding the book so that your hands and fingers are away from the "fire
pit." I chose the plain book and not the Bible cover. It is pretty dull looking and too easily
blends in with dark backgrounds. I have been looking for ways to decorate the cover to make it more
visible. I would like it to look like an ancient magic book. This will help me in my story line.

This trick worked great the first few times we lit it up. Unfortunately, the wick was made out of
the wrong material (nylon strapping) and it melted. The good news is that Penguin was great and a
replacement is on the way. I'm hoping that the replacement has the right kind of wick. I hear
they're supposed to last 20 years+ when the right material is used.

I have used the burning book for over 30 years. Occasionally, I need a new one to take on
international trips as TSA will not allow me to take a used one even in my checked luggage. This
book is almost well made as the spine was poorly attached to the "book". Having some bookbinding
skills, this was easy to fix.
