The Trilogy is a 3 DVD box set containing over 6 hours of card tricks, flourishes and everything else Dan and Dave have dreamt up with a deck of cards. It is a body of work that spans over ten years of study and practice. You'll find everything from a simple one-hand shuffle to an eight packet flourish display along with never before seen tricks so visual you won't believe it's all done with a normal deck. Plus you'll discover over 100 unique sleights that can be adapted and finessed to your own repertoire.

Anyone looking to elevate their card magic should check this out.

Dan and Dave have been at the forefront of their craft since they were only fourteen years old. They have helped mold a new genre of card magic, a style visually rich and direct. Their style and originality has received acclaim from such megastars as David Blaine and David Copperfield. When they were only 17 years old they performed alongside Guy Hollingworh, Paul Gertner, Chad Long and Bill Malone at the first MAGIC Live convention in Las Vegas, and were the only performers to receive a standing ovation. They were among the first to start a movement with card flourishes, also known as XCM or Extreme Card Manipulation with the release of The Dan and Dave System in 2004.

This collection contains a vast array of magical effects, flourishes and everything else their minds have conjured up. From beginner to professional, these DVD's contain something for everyone. Every effect is broken down step by step for a seamless learning experience.

Over 6 hours of material explained in detail with multiple angles, on screen text, and slow motion replays.

This set used to be a LOT higher priced on Penguin, and they just now lowered the price again to 65 dollars. I would definitely reccomend picking this one up before they raise it again!

This DVD set contains three DVDs; below are quick overviews of each:

Tricks:

Pretty neat disc; arguably these things are not "magical", but there has been SO much thought obviously put in these tricks if nothing else it will inspire you.

Flourishes:

This disc was very bad. The flourishes look cool, and the menu is nice and all, but learning these flourishes (after doing flourishes for 2 years) is impossible. This section will have you tearing your hair out if you try and learn them.

Everythingelse:

THIS is a cool section. Flourishes, false shuffles, tricks... But here, everything is explained well, or, better than on the other two discs.

I liked this set and at 65 dollars, I reccomend it.

WARNING! THESE DVD'S ARE ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR A BEGINNER.GET SOME EXPERIENCE, THEN BUY THESE DVD'S

this Dvd is just awesome,
the tricks are absolutely great, one minor tough is that one move, the Super flip, is in my opinion too frequently used and I just don't like the sleight.
Tricks:
4/5

Flourishes(including flourishes 101):
The Flourishes are AM4Z1NG!?!?!
Every flashy move I've EVER seen is taught here, im not kidding. the moves are quite hard but with practice all your dreams can come true:)And Flourishes 101 is really nice if you don't understand an advanced move from the flourishes disk and there you can get back to 'basic'
Flourishes:
5/5

EverythingElse:
This dvd is a sequence of random clips about different subjects, I goes a bit further into the more advanced sleights and has some great tricks of it's own.You do however notice that it's a bit of an 'add-on' DVD, so don't expect to compare them with the other 2 dvd's.
EverythingElse:
5/5

Conclusion:
Great purchase, one of my best dvd sets I have.5/5

This DVD is up there with my favourite magic DVDs of all time. I love Dan and Dave's style and the great thing about their DVDs in that they obviously put a lot of time and passion into their projects, which as a consumer I really appreciate.

Im not an overly-keen flourish performer but I do like to have a few I can throw in now and then, and for me this DVD was perfect for that.

First i watch this DVD, i think this is just too hard to me and put it back cabinet. Then i watch it again and start practising. Then my reaction is: WOW! Thats just amazing, i can do that! It takes much much practise to me, but someone can learn these things much faster. But in my view, pretty much anyone can learn and do these tricks, if he/she have passion for cards. Overall, this is the best what I've bought in Penguin magic.

It is rare nowadays to find a true diamond in the rough when it comes to Magic. This venue has been drowned with mediocrity, that when something truly worth owning gets buried underneath. The Trilogy by Dan and Dave Buck truly shines and anyone who performs Card magic professionally or not should look into this collection

Dan and Dave pull out all the stops here. This collection is jam-packed with over 6 hours of Tricks, Flourishes, and Everything Else...literally. Disc 1 contains 13 tricks that are very visual. The tricks themselves are in the intermediate-advanced range, but they are all well- explained and Dan and Dave are excellent teachers, as well as performers. The great thing is none of the tricks require gaffs, dupes, or gimmicks, pure sleight of hand and skill. mastering these will definitely be a feat but the payoff will be worth it.

Disc 2 contains a bevy of flashy flourishes. I'm not much of a cardist, but these moves are a definite asset to cardistry enthusiasts. Some of these moves are not for the faint of heart and may take quite a bit of practice to get it down straight. The Buck twins again do a great job of teaching here, some times they tend to go a little faster than one would hope but overall they get their points across.

Lsstly Disc 3 is pretty much a cornucopia of random: Sleights, shuffles, finger exercises, changes and more. Also some of the more basic flourishes are taught in a section labeled "Flourishes 101." Here 20 of the more basic flourishes are taught such as the Thumb Fan, Pressure Fan, Charlier Cut, and Sybil just to name a few. There is also a few little tricks scattered here and there on the Disc 3 such as the The Black Jack Production and Shuffled Aces. Probably one the funnest DVD's of the three to watch. Disc 3 pretty much sets the bar high for an "extras" dvd.

As well as this, Dan and Dave teach numerous sleights and controls, such as the DMB Spread Control, throughout the Trilogy which can be used in numerous applications and tricks in your own arsenal.

Overall this collection is top-shelf. The material contained on these DVD's could last you for years, and there is always something to go back to. It can be overwhelming to some, but this will really make you work hard to achieve some visual miracles with a deck of cards What Dan and Dave have done is purely a masterpiece and should be a standard in the making of all magic dvd's henceforth.

I love this set. The tricks are taught well. I especially love the over the shoulder camera for most of the explanations. They may be a bit boring to listen to, but their technique is spot on. Don't expect to learn patter from them so you'll have to be creative to add the finishing touches. I would have given it 5 starts but I'm not a big flourish guy so I'm more interested in the tricks and extra DVD's and not the flourish DVD

I recommend this to anyone who wants to graduate into intermediate card manipulation. For example, if you have mastered Born To Perform, this is definitely the next step

Dan and Dave definitely have a style all their own. This is a great set for the performer who isn't afraid of some hard work & wants to add some sizzle to their performance. As far as the material enclosed, I'm mostly impressed with the flourishes material that Dan and Dave present, not as much the actual effects. That being said, there are some tremendous sleights and there is a ton of great material contained within. Highly recommended.

These dvd's are so great. I don't even know where to begin. There is soooo much stuff on here you will be working on it for a while. Even the most advanced XCM magician out there should find stuff on this dvd set to use. But you really should have some experience with cards before buying it. And the tricks on the dvds are very hard hitting, your spectators will be blown away! All and all, just a great collection, and the video quality is amazing. I cant recommend it enough.

Hard, but well worth it. Report this review

The material is very challenging but we'll worth it. Flourishes is the hardest disc on average although I find the one handed shuffle on everythingelse to be the hardest thing on the set. I've only begun to use some of the material but am getting terrific reactions. My only issue is that they assume you already have the system DVD and I can't find that anywhere, however, the flourishes they assume you know are very easy to learn. These are the best DVDs I've ever seen and I highly recommend it.
