What will she teach?

Amanda shares her innovative approach to creating magic with Fun! Unusual! Visual! Effects – all have really cool, practical methods that can be used for in-person and social medial performances.

Cork Trick – A great impromptu trick that will make it appear like you can do magic on the fly with anything, anywhere.

Pixel Pop – A Minecraft pixel magically pops out of a phone. Apply this broad concept to tailor your own effects.

Appearing Cup & Toilet Paper – Make a cup appear out of nowhere or take an empty roll of toilet paper and have it instantly become a full roll.

Amanda’s take on a Card Mentalism Principle – A spectator selects a card, and it is placed back into the deck wherever they choose. Even if they shuffle it, the magician can determine what card the spectator has chosen. This can be done with any deck of cards. No gimmicks needed.

Un-Forking-Believable – My most viewed Instagram video! First you make an apple float. Then you reveal that there was a fork behind the apple the entire time. Next you take the fork out and present the same feat again. You reveal that there is yet another fork in the apple. The second fork is removed from the apple. Somehow, you make the apple float yet again! At this point the spectators know how the apple is floating, but where are the forks coming from!

Morphing M&Ms – This trick is really sweet. You transform a mini M&M tube into a box of M&Ms very simple but a great visual effect with candy.

T&R – Tear a signed card in half and place the two pieces on the card box. Rub your hand on the deck and brush your finger across the tear. The card is restored. This has a great method and is perfect for walk around/close up magic.

Diamond Cutter – a spectator picks a card. let's say it's the 3 of diamonds, and places it into the middle of the deck. After a bit of shuffling, you find their card...but you got it wrong. It's a 5 of diamonds. No problem. You tell the spectator you are going to change the card into their selected card right in front of their eyes. You rip off the bottom 2 diamonds from the playing card and say "there, now it has 3 diamonds." This gets a good laugh from the spectators. But the pip still shows a 5 of diamonds. You give the pip a quick rub and the 5 turns into a 3 right in front of their eyes, allowing you to leave them with this impossible 3 of diamonds.

Who is she?

Amanda Nepo is a teen magician who is known for her innovative and creative approach to magic. At age 16, Amanda impressed the world-famous duo, Penn & Teller, with her original routine on Penn & Teller Fool Us, making her one of the youngest FOOLERS ever!

Amanda designs and crafts her own magic tricks, many of which she posts on her Instagram account (@amandanepo.magic), where she is followed by magicians from around the world. Amanda's unique style of magic is all about doing something unexpected....something that has not been seen before.

If the progression in magic purchases is "buy fewer standalone tricks and get more books," then the progression for lectures should be "watch fewer lectures that teach tricks and watch more about ideas."

While this lecture does teach some tricks, it is very much about her creative process, and that alone makes it more valuable than your standard lecture. Anytime we can see into a creative's mind is a gift. Given Amanda's young age, I am very excited about where she might be in another 5, 10, 15, etc years.

Hey Penguin: more of this type of lecture, please. Thank you.

So clever and new Report this review

For someone (me) who does not watch much social media magic, I was not aware of the different possibilities that format presents to create new methods, not just effects. Taking advantage of that medium, Amanda novel methods that can then be translated back to the real world (or of course be used on line for new effects). From my viewpoint, that process may be asymmetric, leading to wellspring of new ideas.

The lecture seemed to fly buy. And the Minecraft, toilet paper, and appearing cup tricks (and/or their methods) can be used directly in live performances.

Amanda does teach some tricks, but it is very much about her creative process witch I like as well. Don’t let her age fool you. This young woman knows what she is talking about. Such a wonderful lecture.

This one is mostly about the process Report this review

Amanda gave an excellent lecture that focuses on how she creates her effects. While she definitely goes into the details of how the demonstrated effects work, what I am actually taking away from this is mostly the process for making your own magic. The breakdown flowed well throughout the lecture and was quite enjoyable to watch.

Sadly, a number of the effects are too specific to the medium she is using to work for my style, but that is small peanuts compared to what she talked about.

If you are not into internet magic and you already have your creative process worked out, this may not be for you, but I found her insights worthwhile.

I really enjoyed the thoughts on creativity, and will definitely be applying them to my own tricks in the future. I had the chance to meet Amanda at a Tannen’s lecture and that’s where I purchased the penguin live. I highly recommend it!

Fooled Penn & Teller Report this review

Not many magicians are celver enough to fool Penn & Teller, more specifically Teller. But this teen magician did just that! Although a teen, Amanda carries herself like a pro! Her unique magic with appearing cups and toilet paper from an empty roll and marvelous! And the rest of her magic offers a perspective only she can provide. If you can't use some of the techniques she teaches in her live session, then you're not paying attention! So download this session and prpare to be amazed just like Penn & Teller!

This was good Report this review

This is a good video and I like several of the effects. I'm not that big into Instagram Magic, and several of the effects are for that platform. That being said, I took away a few good effects and it helped stimulate some ideas. Amanda is an excellent magician and very creative. I think the price point is a little high ($25 might have been more in-line with the content) but it's an overall good compilation and I like her work.
