The Pendulum

Semi-Automatic Weapons Chapter 5:

A pendulum is introduced. A deck of cards is shuffled by a spectator. The deck is then taken under the table, and the spectator cuts off a small packet of cards and secretly counts the number of the cards. That packet is given to another spectator so that they also know the secret number. The spectator looks at the card in the deck at the number they have remembered. The original packet is put back on top of the deck, and the cards are cut a number of times. The magician divides the deck into two packets, and the magician uses the power of the pendulum to divine which packet the selected card is in. The remaining packet is divided between the two spectators, who then shuffle their packets. The deck is divided again, and the magician uses the power of the pendulum to divine which packet the selected card is in. This continues until there is only one card, and impossibly that is the selected card. Dani is joined by two of his close friends and students for a session on the incredible principles at play in this Semi-Automatic Miracle.

This lesson, about a half-hour in length, includes an astonishing trick that is baffling to experience. The principles involved in the trick will allow you to discover a selected card without you ever knowing its identity. Key takeaways for the student include:

The Multiplication Principle

Using this clever, mathematical, principle the magician can divine the location of a selected card no matter the number of cards a spectator cuts off the top of the deck. You will learn to manipulate the card's position using dealing, anti-faro, and moving groups of cards. This is a fascinating principle that gives you an astonishing amount of control over a card despite not knowing its identity.

Dividing The Work

Breaking up the procedures of any trick that uses mathematical or dealing principles can take a great trick and turn it into an absolute miracle. Dani will teach you strategies and subtleties that will allow you to involve multiple spectators in a trick to make it play bigger and bolder. This is a principle you will also be able to apply to the rest of your magic.

The Heavy Card

This gimmick is one that Dani has quietly used to destroy people for years. The Heavy Card is a simple gimmick can be made from materials you already own and gives you secret information on the location of the card in the deck. When combined with the previous two principles, you will have a deadly new effect that will blow your spectator’s minds.

Lesson Five of the Semi-Automatic Weapons Project continues this comprehensive course in Dani’s thoughts with an impossible piece of magic your audiences will never forget. This effect gets many people involved and looks completely impossible while using almost no sleight of hand. You are about to become privy to the secrets that make the magic of Dani DaOrtiz so disarmingly devastating. It’s time to go to school with Dani DaOrtiz in the fifth lesson of The Semi-Automatic Weapons Project

Love Dani to pieces, and I can usually decipher what he's saying, but I think all his videos could benefit from English subtitles. And not the auto-generated kind.

This trick has a couple of problems, mainly from the included video demonstration.
The magician talks very fast, and he has a spectator that needs to have part of the trick translated into Spanish. So the back and forth between English and Spanish doesn't help.
The other problem was at then end, when it was down to two cards, the spectator was choosing the card on the video viewer's right (magician's left), and the magician changed it to the card on our left (magician's right).
Then bringing out the pendulum didn't help the viewer, as the magician said he didn't need it, as he was the pendulum.
