This is a review for Alvo Stockman’s Route 66 trick available esclusively through penguinmagic.

I had the pleasure of getting Route 66 By Alvo Stockman. I can honostly say that I LOVE IT!! It is THE best sandwhich routine I have ever seen. I dont think there has ever been something this versatile and this good. It does not use any trickery trolls or wicked witches (Jay Sankey). Just 3 cards and an ordinary deck of cards. It is 100% impromptu and 100% impossible.

The teaching 4/5 I liked Alvo’s teaching like always. But this time he seemed a bit confused when teaching but that does not matter. Also the time for the download was a bit short and the performance was not included. It was an 8 minute download but it was great.

The Method 5/5 The one thing that everybody is confused with, It the method. Its great. Seriously. If you are looking for a good card trick to do, This is it. Alvo created a devious card trick right here. There are absolutely NO controls and only like 2 sleights in the trick other than spread and dribble. I love how flexible you can be with this trick. You can change the method to fit you and how you like to perform. But I like Alvo’s and will use his.

Difficulty 5/5 This trick is perfect on difficulty. It will require maybe 5 minutes of practice to get down and actually understand the “system” envolved in the trick. If you are a beginner and looking for a good trick to learn, Get this. I look forward to using this in school soon as well as the gig I have this weekend. The thing that people dont like is the simplicity. There is nothing different in any sandwhich effect on the market now besides the cards being stapled or rubberbanded or anything. If you want to rubberband the cards or staple them then go ahead. Make it as hard as you want (TWSS)

Presentation 4/5 I really liked the presentation. Alvo did a good job performing this effect and giving all different ways to make it fit you and what you like to do and how you perform the effect. The way I will be doing it, Is saying that route 66 is a highway (Where I live) that connects to every road in New Jersey. Every road you go down leads to route 66. I tell them that if you are lost, you will usually take the road you are on and find route 66 to get back home. Then I tell them that I lost there card in the deck and the 2 face up cards in the middle act as route 66 and were finding the card as I have been talking. I then give the spectator the deck to spread and they find the sandwiched cards. You could be pretty flexible with this.

Overall Alvo did a beautiful job with this trick and really worked on it, I can tell. He put the time and effort into devising this full proof method and sort of “move” that helps you do the trick as well as a few older techniques and some that he took and made new again. He added the special subtleties and gave you this wonderfull piece of real magic. To solve your answers, The reason this is so different, Is because unlike any other sandwich effect because the deck is dropped right on top of the card and you can either leave it there or shuffle it or cut it. You really loose the card. I am NOT joking. Most other effects like this spread the cards and then do a bunch of sleights to control it to the top yada yada. This does not use any real controls. Thanks Alvo!

i like this trick for a lot of reasons. first of all it taught by alvo and he is such a great teacher. second i like that it is a streamlined effect and that every move looks normal and not out of place. this was my first instant download that i bought from penguin and i am very pleased with my purchase. for beginners it will probably take an hour to get down but for intermediate card guys you should be up and performing in minutes. all in all a great effect and even better its an instant download.

This is my absolute favorite Stockman effect. It is so simple and perfect that it never fails to impress. The first time I saw it I was blown away.

The price is also a steal. I would go double the price and be happy as a clam.

Please dont pick it up. I want it all to myself.

Great Card Trick! Report this review

A simple, easy (somewhat), and effective trick. I recommend this trick as an attention getter or "opener" to your routine. With a little bit of practice for the sleights, this can look great and be performed with any deck. It has a great storyline provided, but you can modify it to your needs. :) Alvo Stockman is a great magician and is will be a great addition to your card trick library! Add to Cart!

Worth Every Byte Report this review

After watching the demo I said, "WAIT a minute, that was TOO simple!

Well, it IS too simple and pretty SNEAKY!

I agree, the effect DOES give the sense that you hardly touched the cards.
The moment of 'waiting' for the magic to happen is a perfect nuance.
Adjust it to your desire, environment, etc.
Funny how Alvo says to wait 5-10 minutes, looks at his watch a bit and then says, "OK, we're back."

During the "wait" part, you could pull the six's out of a second deck and show how the trick doesn't work if one doesn't allow enough time for the 6's to do their thing. Laughing

This routine DEFINITELY breathes new life in to sandwich routines and a classic card trick principle.

The price on the download is worth every byte.

With no special cards, no set-up and THE low, virtually no difficulty for the great amount of effect, tempts me to slap a 5/5 on it.

Easy to learn, hard to master Report this review

Good effect and good price, the presentation makes it really good and easy to perform. No gimmicks, prep. for the deck ore anything, just normal/trained card handling is enough. Only negative can be that the effect itself can be known already if you readed a lot, but even then the you need to think hard as the presentation is well thought of. Def. a good choice to make non believers who think everything is gimmicked look a different way with their own ungimmicked deck.

I love this trick. Probably the best $6.60 I've ever spent! This is going to be my new go-to impromptu trick. It's visual. It has a little slight of hand. It is also very versatile patter wise. I am glad I purchased this download.

Good trick, but Report this review

This is a very good trick. In fact, because you can come up with clever plotlines, it can be a great trick. I like to use a double agent plotline, using one red and one black card. This also creates a scenario where it doesn't matter what cards are used or selected.
The BUT, is Alvo doesn't do the presentation on the download. Key to learning any trick is to learn from and adapt someone's presentation. It helps to understand how the trick flows to see how it is presented. It is presented in the marketing video, but NOT on the download that I have saved to my computer! I don't have the marketing presentation saved on my computer!
Alvo, what's up? If I were you, I would re-do this download and include that important piece.
Otherwise, great illusion.

Ok, I made sure not to read Girspiggys review of this, that way mine wouldn't be similar. I haven't read his yet, and I will after I write mine.

Ok, so it doesn't say too much about this, other than it is a very clean sandwitch effect. And seeing the demo, many of you were turned off by the fact that it is another sandwitch effect, right? Cause it is just another generic sandwitch effect, right?

Wrong. Well, you were right too, but let me get to the part you were wrong about.

While the effect itself is the same, almost all sandwitches are the same. Some with mayonase, some with mustard, and then if you go to Alvo's, you are bound to order a 6 dollar sandwitch that consists of just two slices of bread but just a MAJOR punch.

But seriously folks, this sandwitch effect has one quality not many others do. It is tottally hands off. All you are doing is introducing your buddies who shall help with the effect. Not to mention that it gives a sense of modesty, if you chose to use Alvo's patter.

But back to the review for now.

Quality of Download:

The quality is fine, you can learn from it, but with all Penguin videos, the audio plays a little before the video, which annoys me but I think is just my computer. The download is a tad short but I had no problems learning.

Teaching and Teacher:

Alvo is a super creative guy, and he puts out some great, Paul Harris type offbeat stuff. He does say "Ummm..." A LOT, but you still have no problem with learning from it.

Hair:

Alvo has some awesome hair in this video. I put that in for two reasons. One: It makes this review look bigger. Two: It may be the deciding factor for many of you to buy this.

You can see his hair and the trick in this video:

http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=1901

Trick itself:

The method will surprise you. It is SOOO clean and trust me, you will not see it coming. It is a SUPER old principle, and you kinda have to perform this exact version to get a sense of how clean it is. Also, the spectators leave with a sense of, "He didn't even touch the deck!!!".

Difficulty:

This... I would rate the difficulty a 1/5, five bieng the hardest trick. This actually would get a negative number, were that to make any logical sense. Anyway, I watched half of it and performed it perfectly. If you can cut a deck, you can do this trick. I do advise however you can do a charlier cut, but that is just me. It isn't nessisary to do so for the effect to take place.

Price:

The price is a tad steep for what you recieve, but hey, if you will perform it, it is worth it. (And I am not saying that cause I got it for free.)

As wierd as this sounds, buying this and feeling like you got your monies worth is kinda like hypnosis. If you don't want to, you can't be hypnotized. If you want to feel like you got your monies worth, then you will. And I do, or would have if I paid for it.

Overall:

This trick has good teaching, a simple method and a nice, modest effect. I feel that this trick, gets a solid 4/5 for it's simplicity. Very nice Alvo, keep these and the formal realeases coming!

*Disclaimer:

Alvo is the most generous guy out there. That is all. Return to your daily lives. (Not much of a disclaimer, but it makes this review bigger, so...)
