Contents

Disc One -
Michael's Parlour Show

Routines Performed and Explained:

The Intuition Speller.
Inspired by an original effect of Harry Lorayne's, Michael introduces you to a machiavellian piece of misdirection which creates an impossible spelling effect.

Kismet.
Michael's impromptu handling for Al Koran's Double Thought, featuring a wonderful strategy of Dai Vernon and audience management.

My Card, Your Card, Everybody's Card.
The history for this effect can be traced back to Robert Houdin's "Secrets of Conjuring and Magic". Michael's handling and presentation brings this ancient effect right up to date for the 21st Century. This routine features Michael's handling for the obscure Second-From-The-Top-Change.

The Amazing Discovery.
This popular effect has made rounds in the last few years. Michael share's his professional presentation. His handling and performance tips elevate The Multiple Selection routine to another level. His performance in the live show was a tour de force!

Plus bonus performances of: The Rhapsody in Silver, The Cups and Balls and The Knotted Silks.

Disc Two - Close-up Show in The Bar

Routines Performed and Explained:

Brainwave "My Way."
This routine is one of the highlights of this DVD. International card expert Darwin Ortiz had this to say about Michael's Brainwave: "Sleight of Hand techniques have reached such a point, you'll never need to present the classic Brainwave with a gimmick deck ever again. This routine is just about perfect".

Michael has taken Dai Vernon's "Brainwave" effect and turned it on its head into masterpiece of construction and design. With this routine, you will come to appreciate "The Power of Assumptions" and "Audience Attention Control". Also featured is an under used principle in magic, creating an effect in the mind of the audiences before any technique has taken place. This principle alone is worth the price of this DVD presentation for it opens up untold possibilities.

Pandora's Paradox.
There is a world of difference between a card trick and card magic. This routine pushes the boundaries in terms of what is possible with a deck of cards. With credit to Bruno Hennig, Tommy Wonder and Roberto Giobbi, Michael has taken the classic "Signed Card in Box" and amplified the effect with an elegant presentation and technical mastery, to produce an experience equal to any theatrical presentation. We think this routine will become a huge favourite.

Vincent's Aces.
Featuring: The Ace Production, "The Rising Aces", 21st Century Collectors, Cy Enfield's Aces for Connoisseurs and The Henry Christ Fabulous Four Ace Routine.

Foursome.
Featuring Michael's handling for the Spread Cull.

Match Made in Heaven.
Dai Vernon's "Matching The Cards" meets The Aronson Stack.

Prologue to Triumph.
If you enjoyed Dai Vernon's original "Triumph", then you will love Michael's build up to this classic effect. This routine features some interesting applications for Larry Jennings's Larreverse and Edward Marlo's "One Hand Bottom Deal".

Plus bonus performance only of: The Coins Across / Chinese Connection and a discussion on the inspirations for the routine including learning references. Also a bonus PDF teaching the Wild Card routine featuring Michael's breathtaking colour change.

Disc Three - Sleight-of-Hand Mastery - The Path Way to Excellence

A discussion of how to improve your magic, raise your own standards and how to master and improve the basic techniques in sleight-of-hand. This is the beginning chapter in an on-going course in sleight of hand mastery with Michael Vincent. We begin here with the basic foundations of card handling.

Michael will share with you his practice drills for:

  • The Control of a Card
  • The Double Lift
  • The Palm
  • The Top Change
  • The Force
  • The False Shuffle
Plus bonus material: Michael's background and advice on mentoring.

Praise for the Magic of Michael Vincent:

"Michael's magic is simply exquisite." Harry Lorayne. Apocalypse Magazine 1982.

"Your handling of the Brainwave effect is just about perfect, sleight of hand techniques have reached such a point that you will never need to perform the Brainwave effect with a gimmick deck ever again." Darwin Ortiz 2008.

"Michael is a soft-spoken individual but his performances' amplify this facet of his personality to the extent that one is irresistibly led to conclude that here is a magical talent of noteworthy merit. Underlying this congenial demeanour is a savoir-faire that bespeaks sophistication beyond his years." James Patton. Editor of The Magicana Column, for Genii Magazine. Volume 53, No3 September 1989

"Michael Vincent has a performing style that is flawless. In the 30 years I've been performing Sleight of Hand, it is rare that I've seen someone who is able to combine flawless execution, steely assurance and a delightful presentational ability in the unique way that he has. Like Leipzig, he is deadly sure of his success. Like Vernon, he thinks constantly about magic and like Mike Skinner, everyone who watches him ends up liking him." Steven Youell 2009

"It is always a joy to watch you fluidly play with the pasteboards." Jon Racherbaumer 2009

This is truly a great set. The tricks are great and the teaching is even better

1st disk

The Intuition Speller - this is one of my many favorites from this set, it absolutely stuns. it can be performed impromptu and with a borrowed deck. The spectator shuffles the cards and then hands them to you, then without any false moves the magician proceeds to spell to a card in the deck. (One Card for each letter)

Kismet - I personally didnt really like this trick, its a very long process for something that isnt that startling. The magician finds the selected card, then the spectator finds the magicians card basically,

My Card, Your Card, Everybodys Card - Again, this wasnt for me but it did give me new info on the top change, which was very good. A joker changes one by one into the selected cards. The slights and colour changes taught are really goodon this one

The Amazing Discovery - This is a multiple location effect, some new and good ideas, controls and revelations, which are pretty cool.

2nd Disk

Brainwave My Way - This really kills. The magician explains that he took a card from the deck and put it in his wallet which he shows. The spectator then names any card, but it is in the deck so the assumption is made that something went wrong. The cards are then spread out face down to show that there is one odd-backed card in the back, which happens to be the spectators named card. The magician goes into his wallet to show that the card he placed there at the start was the thought of card as well.

Pandoras Paradox - Another great impossible effect. A selected card is shown to be folded inside of a box that was put on the table before the trick began.

Vincents Aces - A awesome impromptu Ace routine which i wont go into as it is very long but it start with an incredible production and ends with the classic Fabulous For Ace routine.

There are a few bonus routines that dont play as big, some using the Aronson stack. But improved versions of these tricks are in the later 2 series, which are impromptu, while these aren't.

Disk 3

Not really tricks taught here but more tips on different aspects of card magic to help you improve your technique.

One routine is taught called Prologue to Triumph which is alright. But the slights taught notably the one hand bottom deal lead so many have and have so many applications, which are shown in later series.

Overall i would highly recommend this set, if you are a fan of Micheal Vincent it is great if not go and search him up on you tube and you will see how good he is. I reckon nearly everyone of his tricks on you tube are explained in some way on this set.

The overall idea of this set amazingly is only and introduction for the next series! You cannot get the next series without previously watching this one.
Thanks Micheal keep up the good work!

I'm fortunate enough to have seen Michael perform live and he is simply a joy to watch. His style of magic is very cool and calm and yet it is so visual and astonishing too. His style vaguely reminds me of Guy Hollingworth- the elegance of an Englishman and the hint of a genuine conjuror. Anyways his performance style aside the actual content of these DVDs are brilliant too, Pandora's Paradox is my personal favourite but then again I like The Amazing Discovery too...infact each effect is pretty astounding!

Michael Vincent is perhaps one of the classiest performers I have ever witnessed (at least on video). True to the title of the DVD series, Michael is very fond of classic card plots, and his presentation and handling of each effect is extremely solid and charming. In the series, Michael not only takes you through the explanation of some of his most amazing effects (Brainwave My Way is worth the price of the DVDs), he also talks about some magic theory and includes touches on how to handle cards. Highly recommended. Every skill level of magician can benefit from these DVDs.

I usually don't write reviews, but this DVD set compelled me to do so.
For starters, Michael is an exponent of old-school magic and magical techniques. There's a lot of palming on the DVD's, but his technique is absolutely the best I've seen on video. In addition, his nonchalance, naturalness, and professionalism shines through on all three DVDs.
My favorite of the three is DVD-2, which he performs and explains the close-up cardwork. It's absolutely top notch. The spectators are real, the routines are refined handlings of classic effects and Michael's presentations are engaging.
All three DVD's are an excellent study tool. I suspect that if you really studied the work that's laid out, you wouldn't need another source for many months or even years to come. Excellent release!

This DVD had me at hello. I watched the demo and knew this would be the DVD for me. I put it in and was mesmorized by the parlor preformance and could not figure some of the stuff out. I really enjoyed the first DVD and have yet to see the others, but I am sure that I will be pleased.

Pros: -Its the preformance of how it happened not edited with only perfection preformances so you can see that everyone makes mistakes.
-Michael takes you step by step with the tricks showing you what to do in each situation and he also reteaches the moves he thinks are critical.
-the DVD is divided up into sections which can help with skipping or selection.

Cons: There is none. The price might be a turnoff, but it's 3 DVDs and you can't get much cheaper with the quality.

BUY IT NOW.
