First, let's talk about the effect. Just look at the video, this is a strong, visual piece of magic. I actually use this pen to have people sign a bill in one of my strolling routine (Bill to wallet, then same bill to spectator's wallet, then bill to spectator's shoe), and I start by doing pointless first, then the routine... but the pen stole the show. That is how POWERFUL that trick is. After your spectators EXAMINED the pen, they are floored, speachless.

The DVD is very clear, the moves are relatively easy (they'll need practice just like anything, but the moves are within reach of everyone) and the extras on the DVD are awesome. It's nice to have multiple takes on an effect (I liked Carl Andrews way of ending clean and garett Thomas way of having the pen examined at ANYTIME during the routine, . Those extras gave it five star instead of four).

The gimmick is VERY well made and it's BIC (Greg makes a clever joke about it in a presentation that lower's the guard of the people who may be suspecting the pen to be gimmicked). Plus, it can be inspected, wich knocks people unconscious (Well, not literally, but it fools them bad).

Finally, the practicality (it's easy to bring a PEN in a routine or an act... much more easy than, let's say a rattle box or something like that), quality of the gimmick and the contents of the DVD (Extras, presentation AND teaching) makes this trick a must.

First and foremost, I would like to say that this trick is NOT pointless. It adds a great bit of comedy and spontaneity in your magic. Plus, you get a surprising amount of "disarming" moments from the routine. More so than you might think!

So the DVD was pretty simple, nothing too flashy or out of the oridinary. There were about 8 or so LIVE performances and the studio performance. Greg was also OUTSTANDING throughout and the performances are well worth the price of the disk. Keep in mind, I don't own anything else from Greg and this DVD left me wanting MORE of him in my own home. I could complain though that it's not clear that you can watch them all in one run without having to go to the menu, but you can't watch the entire DVD at once.

The quality of material chosen for this DVD was very good and I was more than happy with the result. It seems from the advertisement like you are just going to get a simple DVD and gimmick that teaches a trick and that's it, but no. You get much more. Along with performances, hilarious one-liners and a pretty assistant,you get a bonus routine by the creator and other great routines and tips by other creators. One of the highlights of the DVD was Greg's "Bar bet" type routine which flows very nicely and has a little bit of each part of the standard routine in it. I look forward to performing this one!

One final bit of business to attend to is the gimmick. Greg searched high and low to find a manufacturer for his gimmick that would provide QUALITY. Key word. Q-U-A-L-I-T-Y. With that in mind, the gimmick is pretty simple but the way it works and is manipulated in the actual routine itself. Plus you can change the routine up and only use the gimmick through half of it if you prefer.

Overall, this deserves a nice 5/5. For a flexible (que up rubber pen gag), almost impromptu routine you cannot go wrong!

When I first got the trick in the mail, I was amazed at how simple the gimmick was, but amazed at how well the pen is constructed, you cannot tell the difference between it and a real bic pen. The DVD is of good quality, but I found it sort of difficult to follow Greg's instructions, but worked it out by watching the performances. This trick is freaking amazing, nothing but "OMFG, WHAT?" One of the BEST tricks I have EVER purchased from penguin magic...EVER. simple to learn, explained perfectly, fantastic visual and physical effect. Garunteed jaw-dropper for people between the ages of 12-27...well worth the money spent :)

*only 1 suggestion for betterment of the trick. Make just the hardware available for purchase. The DVD is great and completely necessicary if you've never done the trick. But if you've used it for a while and the gimmick has been lost or broken, it would be great to buy just the hardware without the DVD a second time.

Pointless is a great routine from Gregory Wilson. I have a lot of his stuff and he rarely disappoints. If you own his DVD "On the Spot", this is a great finish or opener, depending on your style, to his Recap Revisited trick. The effect is so stunning it's unbelievable. Some people will have their suspicions but most of them just won't know what to say. Grab this and start baffling your audience today.

If it's by Greg Wilson, it's almost guaranteed to be good, and this is no exception!

Pointless is awesome! The effect is mind boggling, and like most of Greg Wilson's effects, it packs small and plays HUGE! There are several phases you can put take in and out of the routine, and you'll have a good time with this one. If performed well, your audiences will be stunned. Definitely, add to cart!

I purchased this, already knowing how it was done. I was hoping that the gimmick was well made, and it is! The DVD is filled with great material. Tells you everything you need to know and great helpful tips. This is probably my new favorite trick to carry around. This isn't just about the 'trick', but about the presentation and performance. The DVD helps out a lot with presentation, and with a good one, it is the best! No one will ever figure it out, and you will always end up clean. I don't even want to perform this until I get a good patter down. Once you have it down, it will hands-down be the best and easiest performance to do... Thank you Gregory Wilson, you are a very good teacher/magician. Wish I could meet you in person.

Can only give 3 stars as the price is way too high for what you get. If it wasn't for the $44.95 Price tag I would give it a 4 1/2 to 5 stars for sure.
The pen is great (though mine came a little warped, I assume from sitting in the dvd container for a long time in the warehouse..not a big deal though) and Wilson does a great job on the DVD showing performances and best of all the he does a great job with the tutorial. Without Wilson's routine it would make this so so but he makes it close to great.
Again though even with that the price is to high so 3 stars. I would say $30 is fairer price and at that would rate 5 stars.

Simply put, my Wife and I had friends over for dinner and she said, “show them the pen trick!” After seeing every one of my magic tricks, “Pointless” is the one she asked me to perform to impress our friends. It is gauranteed to fry laymen. Kids love it, adults love it, magicians love it. It’d be nice to purchase a replacement or two without having to buy the dvd again.

I'd love to give this five stars but it wouldn't be fair to the truly great tricks out there.

The problem I have is that they never do the camera over Gregory's shoulder so we can see it the way we would when we perform it.

It's only a minor point but, it makes it so much easier to learn how to perform something new when it's shot from this angle.

Final minor gripe is that the lighting is horrible on all the shots where it's Gregory and Alana showing variations and tips etc.

Other than that the trick is pure genius and I'm sure I'll get a lot of mileage out of it.
