I had high hopes for Arcade Coin. I always liked Scotch and Soda but was always bothered by the
orientation of the assembled gaff. Hand it to a coin collector and all they have to do is turn the
coin over in their hands and they know something is not right. I know, my brother collects coins and
burned me on this early on.
Penguin solved that problem by making Scotch and Soda with an
arcade game token and a quarter.
You get the gaffed game token, a real quarter, a washer
with a hole in it, and a bang ring. It took a few minutes of looking at the token to decide which
side to put into the bang ring. And... I got it wrong. So, high points for that. I thought maybe it
would be a stamped shell, but no, it's a nicely machined shell. When you stack the gaff and drop it
on the table, it sounds like a solid token. No tinny hollow sound. My favorite thing to do is to
pull the assembled gaff out of my hand, drop it on the table, and ask what's in my hand. It sounds
so good.
The only negative: the bang ring sucks! It's flexible. Sometimes the coin gets
wedged in sideways when banging the coin to separate the gaff. Otherwise this would have been 5
stars.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with this purchase. I even just ordered a spare.

I have always loved scotch and soda. It was one of my first trick coins I bought. The problem with
the old one is no one has seen a centavo. This fixes that problem because everyone has seen a
quarter and an arcade token. Once again, Erik's teaching is top notch. He is so calm Everytime he
teaches you. You will learn all three routines in a clear manner. The gimmicks do not feel cheap. I
was worried about that, but after reading another review I took that chance. In the package you will
find the gimmick coin, a quarter, a washer, and a piece to reset your gimmick. Resetting the gimmick
couldn't be easier. No more hard surfaces, just use your hand. This is perfect for walk around.
Imagine doing some table hoping, with an older set you'd have to reset the trick by banging hard on
a table, this would draw attention. Not with this set, but don't be fooled because the set will
still lock tight enough so no one will suspect a thing. If you love a good scotch and soda routine,
bring it up to date with this trick. You'll love it.

I was a little concerned when I read about using the arcade token instead of a “real” coin. My
concern is that it would “feel cheap” or hollow….. well my concerns quickly vanished, when I
received it in the mail. It is very well made and will pass inspection.
It looks great, it
feels great.
It is so good I bought two of them, I love the scotch and soda premise, the one
flaw is that I have found is that very very few people have seen a centavo or an English penny, they
just are not that common.
Excellent release!

Anyone who is a good storyteller could make a miracle out of this effect. I am going to use it for
my presentation about Hope and Hope theory. Think about it in this way, l grew up on the boardwalk.
I ran the rides. I spun the wheels, I put people’s pictures on T-shirts. I saw thousands of people
spend millions of dollars to win tokens. They saved them up all summer long in hopes of getting that
big prize off the wall in the arcade. Studies have shown that even today if you walk up to a
stranger and offer them either a quarter or an old arcade token, 90% of them will take the arcade
token. When asked why they said they remembered playing the arcade games as a child and saving them
up in hopes of winning a big prize. We all know what a quarter is worth. But an arcade token, that
could be worth a whole lot more. It could be the final token you need to get that big boom box radio
off the wall circa 1985. You can argue that you will spend more money playing the games than you
would if you had just bought the radio. I would argue, where’ the fun in that. In hope there is
magic and there is certainly magic in hope I have Parkinson’s disease. It’s an incurable
degenerative condition. If you ask anyone in the medical profession, they will tell you I’m only
going to get worse. Yet every day I get up with a positive attitude, I take part in clinical
studies. I read research articles. Each one of these activities is like another token that I am
saving up for a cure. It’s hope.. I’m going to place this arcade token a symbol of hope in your hand
along with an ordinary quarterâ¦
I like it, very well made and the instruction is good. You should be able to do this after only 20
minutes max with just the slightest of practice. Three nice routines included. If you have a
scotch and soda effect routine already, then you don't need it but if you do have one and want to
sort of "update it" to an arcade coin and a quarter, this is it. This is what I carry, the Arcade
Coin.
It's a great quality coin. But it should have come with a Real Arcade coin as well. No need to
come with a real quarter coin because that one is common and we can find it anywhere.
This is a fun to perform coin trick with a very high quality machined gaff coin. The tutorial is
also very clear and easy to follow. P3 and Penguin produce high quality video tutorials and magic
gimmicks, so I’m happy to see them continue that with Arcade Coin.
Great patter to this trick
and it takes a classic coin trick and changes a not so common coin for something more recognizable
like the arcade coin. Easy to learn, but with some practice it can be even smoother. You’ll be
doing some light misdirection, patter performance, and coin handling. Fun coin trick.
I do
recommend.
The fit and finish on the arcade coin is great, pairing it with the washer and quarter provides
plenty of routines for any beginner to take off with. Nice to have a unique type of coin that is
familiar to a crowd versus an English penny or Centavo, excited to see what other types coins will
come out of the Penguin lineup in the future.
When I received the email to preorder Arcade Coin, I did not hesitate. I had a Scotch & Soda coin
set a long time but eventually it fell apart. I was looking to replace it with another set or look
for something entirely different. Arcade Coin was the different I have been looking for. The props
are high quality and come with everything you need to perform the different ways Arcade Coin can be
performed. The premise is still the same but with such a modern approach that is completely
motivated, you can’t lose with buying this and adding it to your repertoire.
Additionally
I was not expecting it to arrive this early as the ETA was November 4th. I was surprised and happy
to see Arcade Coin in mailbox the other day. PenguinMagic does not disappoint with their fast
shipping and product quality.
Finally, the tutorial is easy to understand and follow. The
routines taught will definitely get you started and also cause the creative juices to start flowing.
I just ordered my set of Arcade Coin and am waiting for delivery.
Years ago I lost my set of
Scotch and Soda.
I never got a new set. So, when I saw this. I had to order it.
When I
receive my Arcade Coin I will do a proper review.
But being familiar with the concept of the
effect. I want to say, that it is versatile for many magical effects.
It is a utility device
that I would make an EDC.
What perfect item(s) as an Every Day Carry for on the moment spots. It
fits in the pocket and ready to go at a moment’s notice.
What you will receive is a well made
download and three gobsmacking routines Erik Tate teaches. Before each lesson you will see Erik
doing live performances. He will explain how to get the full benefits out of your Arcade Coin set
which also comes with a washer and if I remember, an USA coin matching your gaffed coin, (USA side,)
and a locking gimmick. Also, a (bang ring) to reset for your next immediate presentation. This ring
is durable plastic and can do the dislodging in your palm, which is an improvement from the original
version and eliminates that, (“bang, bang noise on hard surfaces when resetting.
Routines are
versatile only limited to your imagination.
If you purchase two or three no telling what
eye-popping routines that you’ll come up with.
I like it because it is a clean way to vanish
that extra coin without palming and pocketing it or any other moves when yours hands are being
burned!
You end clean and there is nothing to find, everything can be examined.
When I
receive my Arcade Coin I will give another review after testing it in real world performances.
