I started with Bobo's book on coins decades ago and thought that would hold me. Then I saw David Roth on Fool Us and realized I was missing out on genius level material. This book is a must have for coin workers.

I love this book. David Roth is a coin genius. If you have the expert coin magic videos then you really should get this book as it will be the continuation of your education. Roth covers all of the basic sleights and covers more advanced sleights like edge grip and the deep back clip. many routines in this book require some other props or special coins but they are simple things like a c/s coin. there is a section of coin masterpieces that require elaborate setups and props. Not really practical to the average performer. Overall this is a fantastic book and a must if you want to become an expert coin magician.

I finally got this book and I absolutely LOVE it. I thought, however, that a lot of the material is outdated. And also a lot of the material requires special props. For example, one routine requires a rainbow, a bag for the rainbow, a gold plated pot, and 80 gold plated nickels...worth it? not sure. The material is GREAT and to see it and just hear his thoughts in one complete place is amazing. I loved that part of it. But are some of these worth it? not really. You will find yourself making special props and gimmicks. But once again, the review is great and you will learn a lot of amazing material. I would say buy it if you have an interest in coin magic. It shows what is REALLY out there on the subject :)

UNLESS you want to spend a good amount of additional money to create one of his gaffed routines towards the back of the book, OR want to learn about his work (over 100 pages) on the Okito Box, I'd honestly pass this book by and buy his 2 famous coin series instead.

Why? But isn't it a classic? Comparing the book to his DVD series "Expert Coin Magic Made Easy", and his "Ultimate Coin magic series", there really is VERY little (outside of the aforementioned two above points) to gain in terms of subtlety that isn't already covered in his DVDs, or his New York Coin Seminar DVD's...all of which available at Penguin. <3

I honestly have learned more from Roth's visual learning DVD's than I have from having to decipher Richard Kaufman's writing in this literature...AND IM A HEAVY BOOK GUY! The book put me to sleep!

That said I love all of Richard Kaufman's other work (ESPECIALLY him covering the work on Brother John Hamman), though I sincerely did not like the book, and I read it from cover to cover, possibly unlike other reviewers.

So again, (TL;DR) if you want to learn about Okito boxes or his complicated gaff routines that took him around the world, get the book. Everything else? Its covered in DVD sets, with MUCH more clarity and detail than in this book.

This along with a few other books such as Bobos, are to me the ultimate in coin magic. The basics and beyond. I have much of this material in other books and videos but I got this mostly for the OKITO box work.

You will not be disappointed in this book, it is high quality and has some things I have seen nowhere else.

I had the pleasure of personally meeting David Roth over 30 years ago at the Magic Castle in Hollywood.
Not only did I see his amazing performance in the close up room, but I got to experience some of his flawless coin magic in my own hands and face to face personally standing near one of the bars. I have been out of performing for about 30 years, but I have desired to read this book for many many years.

I lost my first copy. Now I'm getting back into magic. I used to perform a couple of Okito Box routines. Now that I have Expert Coin Magic (again) I am back in step with what I used to do and have new moves and routines I want to develop. This book lays out a solid foundation for learning some really great coin work. The routines are laid out in a logical sequence and the illustrations are well done. I would recommend this book to any beginner or intermediate level aspiring coin magician who is a serious self-studier. I also recommend it to anyone interested in coinbox magic.

Absolutely loved it. The book is essential to anyone who wants to do coin tricks perfectly.
