Note: I did not get this DVD via Penguin Magic but I did get it from another magic dealer.

What the effect looks like:
The performer shows the audience several separate sheets of newspaper gathers them together and uses two paper clips to keep the pieces together. Then instantly the pieces fuse together and a full newspaper is shown.

The Add Copy states, " Here it is,...The quick and easy to learn illusion! Take a torn newspaper and restore it right before your spectator's eyes. The method is nothing less than brilliant,..". The add copy is completely true. Yes, the format of the teaching on the DVD is to the point, easy to understand and covers this version of the newspaper tear effectively. However, the add copy leaves out the one thing which makes this version of the newspaper tear pale in comparison to almost all others, the paperclips. The paperclips seem out of place they and are introduced but vanish with the pieces never to be seen again. On the DVD itself Magic Makers state, "(The effect) Does not use magnets or unique gimmicks." Again completely true but the use of the paper clips not only makes the effect look like you are hiding something but makes what can be a real piece of magic into a silly puzzle for the audience to figure out. The truth is in order to do and love this magic effect you must bite the bullet when it comes to the setup. If you don't care for the long set-ups of the tear version a version of the No Tear effect using magnets is ideal. This DVD and method almost feel like Magic Makers was trying to make a quick buck of the beginner magician.

This DVD gets 2 stars due to its complete comprehensive teaching of the Gene Anderson Newspaper fold. A performer interested in taking of this effect would be better of looking at the World's Greatest Magic DVD on the Newspaper Tear from L&L Publishing or studying Gene Andersons or Mark Masons versions.
