I love penguin magic and have spent hundreds of dollars here, maybe thousands over the past decade
or so... And I have never been more disappointed! Don't get me wrong, it's an unbelievable
illusion, obviously, just watch the video... but unfortunately the coin is 100% NOT examinable.
Scotch and Soda can be closely examined because the manufacturing of it is perfect.... this gimmick
is so noticable, that when my wife was opening the package while in the car because I was driving,
as soon as she opened the box she immediately said "oh, you're going to hate this" and it was STILL
IN THE PLASTIC BAG! She could see how poorly the gimmick fit together through the zip lock bag.
Of course the DVD teaches you ways to divert the spectators' attention.
Does Penguin take
returns? I've never had to return something, but this time I do

First, I want to say I was very excited about this when I bought it. I LOVE scotch and soda and use
it all the time. I have a routine where I use three sets, and hand the coins out several times. I
was hoping to be able to do the routine with regular coins. However, this can not happen. I do magic
mainly for adults. They really like to handle the items I use. There is no way I would hand out this
coin. The idea for the coin was a good one. Not needing a bang ring... wow! However, the inside
"gimmick" moves around too much. I think I would have like the one before this one better. I will
try this and see how it goes, but I would not feel comfortable handing it out.

I see that a few people are concerned about being able to hand out the quarter. If the trick is
done well, there is no need to hand out the quarter. I have done the old S&S hundreds of times and
have never felt the need to hand out the gimmick. What the spectators are concerned about is the
coin that changed in their hand.
If you want to hand out the quarter, a simple Bobo will take
care of that. The lack of need for a bang ring and the "normal" change is, for my money, a great
improvement.

no bang ring, very cool, uses coins people are used to, very cool, dont gotta squeeze it into place
so much, very cool, the cons are the quarter is not examinable, i would just give it a switch at the
end, and i found i also gotta toss the quarter around a bit after cuz if they stare or get a decent
glance at the back they can see the lines, better to do in a dimmer lighting because of that, i
thought the lines would be better hidden but if you like scotch n soda buy it, i can see myself
carrying this everywhere and performing it despite its flaws

I love this trick! It's a great update to the classic Scotch and Soda.
I think the other
reviewers who didn't love this didn't actually go perform it yet. Scotch and Soda HAS to be
examinable with a fine-tooth comb because people want to check out a half dollar and an English
penny. Not the case with this.
I've performed this a few times now, and people don't want
to examine the gimmick at all because in their mind it's just a normal quarter. OK, sure, if all you
do is make the penny disappear right in front of their eyes and nothing else, they'll want to
examine it.
But if you change the penny into a dime, or make it appear in an impossible
location, or do any of the other routines on the DVD, a real spectator could care less about looking
at your quarter.
The craftsmanship on my gimmick is great, and I have no problems handing
it to a spectator. I did have the original Captain & Coke, and this 2.0 version is MUCH better. As
long as you don't say "Please examine this quarter very closely", which would be stupid, they'll
never catch it in a million years. Because of the way this gimmick is made, you can see a very faint
line where "the work" has been done to the coin. But we as magicians know what we're looking at,
while the audience does not.
Quality gimmick, regular common coins, and nice routines with
clear teaching. Highly recommended!

Very well made and updates the effect to new heights. Easy to work with and reset. Love it.

This is a fairly well made deceptive gimmick. On the outside it looks like a genuine us quarter and
penny. You can do any scotch and soda trick with this. The advantage to this is that these coins are
very common and don't look like 'magic' coins. Also, very easy to reset. You don't need a bang ring.
The disadvantage is that when it's done, it's not totally examinable. The spectator can look very
carefully and see the gimmick, whereas after you are done with Scotch and Soda, they can completely
examine everything at the end and can't figure it out. So weigh the pros and cons and decide from
there and decide what's better for you.
5 minutes out of the box and I was doing this to the amazement of everyone who saw it! I was
nervous..."They'll see the gimmick!". NO ONE sees the gimmick...clever, cool, and drop dead
amazing! Worth every penny and more.
this is something like hey man check this out but i would not use this to really try impress
someone, at least for me, this is not one of my prize tricks or recommended, after i do 'whatever' i
found to only show them a glimpse of the quarter works better maybe by tossing it between your hands
for 2-3 passes, just enough to show them theres no penny, pros are that there no bang ring, its a
quarter and a penny not a sentavo or something and that you can still amaze a certain people
This does exactly what it is designed to do. A lot of complaints saying you can see the gaff too
easily. I disagree. Can you have them look at it up close? No. But why would they be ablt to examine
it close?
You can have them have it in their hands, no issues.
As far as it soinning?
Mine doesn't at all. If you get one that does, contact Penguin or Blue Crown.
If you can't
handle your audience, then you need to either purchase some books on misdirection, or quit magic.
The best part is that it is a Quarter and a penny. You can easily borrow them, and of
course switch for the effect.
With the normal Scotch and Soda, the coins are not normal in
the first place.
This is a great effect. Highly reccomended and much better than the
original.
