I have kind of known about Kainoa for a couple years but never knew where to get any of his
material.
As a devote coin magician and devote student of David Roth I was excited about
this lecture. The lecture was wonderful. This guy REALLY knows what he is talking about! Most of the
material on the lecture I will add to my act. Some I need to work on for a while.
I highly
recommend Kainoa's work for anyone who isn't afraid of practice. If you want the magic that will
work tomorrow, don't watch this lecture. If you are willing to work a bit and deserve the magic,
this is good stuff.

With Coin Magic being such a niche market it was really refreshing to see Penguin bring in Kainoa
Harbottle to lecture. Especially since Kainoa is not know for easy coin magic.
Kainoa's
lecture was full of great real-world material (no YouTube daydreams here!) No crazy magnetic,
half-shell, nested, shaved, flipping, bite-out coins. And he presented it in a fun, causal manner.
He even threw a couple card tricks for those girls out there who just have to have one. :)
I really recommend this lecture anyone looking to get into the real work on coins!

I have to give this my highest recommendation. If you like coin magic or want to learn coin magic
this is a great learning experience. Kainoa has some great thinking in regards to coin magic and
routining. I especially liked the opening coin routine. Kainoa makes several valid and eye opening
points. The sleights are surprisingly easy to learn. I was expecting a lot of real knuckle busting
coin work from Kainoa but he uses stuff you can actually do in the "real" world of performing. I
really enjoyed the lecture and the magic was top notch. At around 3 and 1/2 hours there is plenty
to learn. He has a great book if your interested in the use of the "Edge Grip". It's called "Coins
On Edge". He teaches his version of the hanging coins and I was in heaven. That is one of my all
time favorite coin effects. Kainoa is a lot of fun and he teaches everything very well. You won't
be disappointed if you purchase this.

I have mixed feelings with this seminar. 3,5 out of 5
First of all, this is not that difficult
material as I readed in other reviews. Well, I train mostly coin magic in the last years but apart
from the technical difficulty of some moves, there is nothing that requires a big amount of deep
learning and interpretation. This being said, you have to read between the lines in the Harbottle
magic which is offered here.
The whole seminar is a bit chaos. He makes this chaos entertaining
and I like to see how he losts control of the magician-audience and takes it back again. But at the
same time you wish the audience would talk a bit less. He teaches some routines that, if you
followed Kainoa in Ganii or his selling-material, you already kind of know. And that is why I bought
this video, since I wanted to see him doing it again and leting him give me some deeper
explanations. But again, how deep they are depends on how good you look at what is being offered,
since this seminar is more of the kind of Routine-Explanation-Little theoretical analysis, but just
a bit. If you pain attention though, you can learn some very good magic and some very advanced and
intelligent structures, which is why I liked this very much.
THe card stuff ist -in my opinion-
completely irrelevant. It does not add anything new or interesting. The triumph is nice; the first
"trick" is just a longer and too complicated version of a nice old effect.
The interview is
again one moment in which you see a professional artist saving the day. The questions are too flat.
You could expect those questions coming from a layman magazine. The good thing about htat is, first,
that those are questions that beginners like to do and therefore beginners will enjoy this seminar
very much, which is good. Kainoa himself tries to answer every question and turning them into
interesting thoughts. This way he really adds value to something that started being uninteresting.
If you are interested in close-up magic which can be seen by a larger table in a restaurant or a
larger audience sitting in a close-up setting, then you will be very pleased with this seminar. His
stuff is great and worth learning. If Penguin Live is the best way to learn his stuff, that I cannot
say. For me was more an opportunity to enjoy a long performance-chat wich a magician whom I really
enjoy reading from time to time.

Beautiful lecture on coin magic (with a hint of card) that shows how amazing coin magic can be. You
will see the master at work with his amazing coin roll productions, to his infamous Hanging Pendulum
Coins all taught in great detail. The best part about it was his patter and showmanship. He has a
great personality that caters towards the audience and felt like himself rather then presenting
himself as a "magician".
I would highly recommend this lecture if you have any hints of
learning coin magic, but remember this isn't beginner stuff. I would imagine you know the basic
slights and handling of coins before venturing forward. I would still purchase even if you are a
beginner to see how flawless coin magic can get.

I have a decent collection of coin magic DVDs and if I was to rate them on the quality of the
learning experience I think some would stand out; those presented by good teachers. I’m thinking of
magicians like David Roth and Eric Jones who are able to break moves down into simple steps,
communicate the important details and leave you with confidence that you can do the routines
yourself. Kainoa is a professional teacher and he’s similarly very good at explaining his moves and
routines. I have a couple of his books and it’s great to see the material come to life. There’s a
huge amount of good and practical coin magic in this lecture and much useful discussion about how to
perform it well. Although I’ve seen him live in the UK I’m very pleased to have this have a download
that I can refer to again. At over 3 hours I think it is great value for money. I skipped over the
card magic section which is about 30 minutes so can’t comment on that.

I love his act, technic, idea and personality.
He hold a coin with very light touch even hiding
extra coins.
I look again and again his slow motion type coin vanish.
This is the Best slow
motion coin vanish I have ever seen.
His act does not require jacket,And produce many coins.
His act can perform with standing. This is the good point.
Thank you for both Kainoa and
Penguin.
And please see and follow my photo if you like.

Kainoa taught excellent stuff regarding coin magic. In addition, I think his false shuffle which he
applied to a classic triumpf effect was quite practical (= I will use it!)

This is the first time i've seen Kainoa give a full length lecture. His coin magic, not to mention
card magic, is brilliant. He has that rare mix of technical prowess and natural movement,
reminiscent of say, Mike Gallo. Most of us could only wish to achieve a fraction of his
accomplishments. That said, a little of his personality goes a long way. Note to Kainoa: As someone
who likely offers up a lot of feedback to others, here's some feedback for you to consider. You're
an intelligent guy with a naturally offbeat personality. I promise you that will come off naturally
if you let it. The harder you work at informing the audience of it, the more it works against you.
There were far too many moments when "quirky" became overtly and painfully trying too hard to be
funny (sex puns at that). But the real cardinal sin is putting down your audience. Don Rickles can
pull that off. You, Kainoa, can not and should not. As someone safely viewing from my computer, I
found your 'jokes' often came off as condescending and even mean-spirited toward audience members,
without a truly funny insight to offset the offense. From a quick google search it seems your
students often feel the same way.
Keep up the great magic, sir. To coin magic lovers
everywhere, I highly recommend this lecture.
