“You fooled us!” -Penn & Teller

“One of the most creative people in the world. Everything that he does is well thought out, very clever and usually so far out of the box you would never think of the method. I love pretty much everything Mathieu does” -Chris Kenner

What will he teach?

Fickle
Make the selected card jump from the deck (no thread).

FAX + Force MB
A very cool, no angle force + make the selected card instantly appear on a piece of paper in a flash of fire.

Leverage
Use a magic pen to find and stick to a card.

The Tickets
An amazing transposition of a signed lottery ticket from under one card to another.

House and Diamonds
Made shapes cut into playing cards change into other shapes!

Rubber Transposition
A two card transposition where both cards can be seen until the very last moment while being marked by placing rubber bands around them.

Erazed
Make the face of a SIGNED ordinary playing card turn BLANK. Can me handed out as a souvenir.

"Lee"
Writing mysteriously appears on the back of a playing card.

ALU
A very clever way to produce small objects (like a deck of cards) from aluminum foil.

Frozen
Reveal a chosen card by making a waterfall of cards freeze in the air as you cascade them from one hand to the other.

Instant Sandwich
Have a signed, selected card appear between the two jokers as they are tossed onto the table without ever contacting the deck.

Painting
Predict the name of one of your spectators' friends that they will call live with their own phone.

Thinner
Take a deck of cards from it's box, instantly shrink the box flat, then make all the cards slowly disappear until you're left with only the four aces, which he'll place back into the flat box.

Perrier
A perfect prediction where the spectator shuffles, decides on a card, and it matches a message in a bottle.

Plus, he'll also explain his routine where a stretched hairband is "frozen in time"... stretched out... and slowly shrinks back down to its normal condition.

Weird, visual, fun, unexpected, AND practical... these are the kinds of great magic ideas that you will learn from Mathieu Bich.

Who is he?

Mathieu Bich is a magician, and has probably always been one… After self teaching magic for a few years, he met Dominique Duvivier who gave him creation lessons for over 8 years. This will transform Mathieu’s vision of magic, as he was mainly focussed on technique; Dominique Duvivier taught him the processes and methods to invent tricks, and to also become a magic creator.

Since then Mathieu has constantly been creating new magic using original concepts and routines generally based on new principles, or unexpected methods.

In 1998 he presented his first lecture which was an instant success. Since then he has presented it more than 50 times all around the world. Mathieu published some of his creations in the biggest magic magazines: Magic (USA), Chanel One (USA), Le Magicien (France), MagicSeen (UK), Magicus (France), Pegasus (Germany), Arcanes (France), Evocation (China)...

In 2003 he won the FISM Invention championship.

Several TV channels required Mathieu’s services, in France as well as abroad. In 2007 Mathieu collaborated with Nintendo on the interactive magic game "Master of Illusions" and sold one of his tricks to the Japanese firm TENYO. In 2008 he worked as a magic consultant for David Blaine the famous American magician, who performed one of Mathieu’s creations during his show on the ABC channel.

In 2011 HE FOOLED Penn & Teller on their TV Show "Fool Us".

If you love gimmicks then Mathieu is your guy. Super creative, super gimmicky. Me, not so much...at least not THIS much. I learned a few really cool things, and I have no regrets on buying and watching it, it just isn't "me", ya know?

really lame presentations. no build in his routines. not sure who told him he was a comedy magician. great foil card production but limited to a seated environment. message in a bottle is brilliant. all old material. we want to see 60% new material 40% review. we all have the dvds. looking for new ideas and theories, not rehashed stuff. it dragged out. i would rather see a kick ass 2 hr. lecture than a 4 hr. boring one.

It is true that there was plenty of tricks that used gaffs. Though they all worked differently, they where all cleaver and very visual. Even if you didn't like the trick it was used with I am sure you will be able to come up with many other ideas.

The tricks Perrier or leverage alone is worth the price of the lecture alone.

Good!! Report this review

Not the best lecture I have seen but its good. Most of the tricks need gimmicks but you can make them yourself. Most of the tricks are pretty visual and cool. Michael Weber improves one of the tricks Mathieu does because Weber is just a master. Get it if you like to construct gimmicks and also like to see a different way of thinking. Not bad at all.

The second lecture I'm not saving to rewatch Report this review

I've seen about ten or so Penguin lectures and this is one of the two that I'm not saving for future viewing.

As others have said, if you can see value in learning creative gimmicks, this will be right up your alley.

However, his performances weren't entertaining (to me), the routines performed mostly seemed built around making use of the gimmick vs a gimmick being created to help accomplish a routine, and none of it really drew me in.

This being my first lecture purchased from Penguin, I'm impressed. I really had no idea what to expect, but figured you can't go wrong with Mathieu Bich.
The tricks are good, but the creative insight was what I was after.
I really enjoyed this lecture and look forward to more
