Although I'm usually not a fan of "one trick dvd's", I'll make an exception for FILTER from Rick
Lax. The three phase routine is clean, super visual and almost completely angle proof (you can't
have someone peering over your shoulder, but why would you allow that, anyway?) Only three quarters
are used, there is no palming or difficult sleight of hand, and the impossibility of the
penetrations builds, with the methods "canceling" each other out in the minds of the spectators. Oh,
you can use several different types of glasses and mugs and it's completely impromptu. What are you
waiting for? Buy this!

I love Rick and have purchased so many of his tricks. I do not regret this purchase, but think it
only fair to state that the angles on this on highly sensitive. For the third phase, he has an
alternate method for groups, but realistically, all phases suffer from bad angles. This is best
performed for one, maybe two people, DIRECTLY in front of you and, in some instances, at a certain
height. The only other hiccup is the types of glasses that can be used. He covers all bases, but
in my experience, the hardest one to do it with, or as Rick calls it, "your enemy", is the most
common type of glass when out. The best case scenario glass will be a rarity, unless you carry one
with you.
The mug variation is fantastic!
As with all of his stuff, the method
is ingenious. Rick, as always, goes into great detail on the method and his enthusiasm is
contagious. The DVD is produced very well and the outtakes were a nice way to end it.
Again, I love his stuff and feel bad not giving a full 5, when it is so good, but the angles do
need to be considered.

This trick is very simple to do. But it has such a high impact.
The best part is - you can
borrow both the coins and the glass.
Whenever I'm dining with my friends I perform this
one and everybody is so amazed.
Go get it. The teaching is as usual for Rick very thorough.
it is worth it....

OK, I don't work in magic for a living I just like stuff I can do for my family and friends and I
LOVE stuff that can be examined etc. This is one cool trick....LOVE IT...buy it....I would think
this would be super cool for someone that is in magic for a living or just an old fart like me that
like to trick friends and family from time to time.

I realize that by saying, "this can be performed by all levels of ability", I'm taking a chance. I
don't want to convey the message that this doesn't require some serious practice, because it does.
However, your efforts will be rewarded. The mechanics of the illusion are pure genius. This is one
of those effects that rely on knack and timing. I wouldn't hesitate to suggest this to even a novice
magi! A lot can be learned here. I never knew much about Rick Lax until I purchased "Soul Paper"
from the Cool Box, which is another great trick. His DVD's are very professional. His teaching
style is something all teachers of magic can learn from. Clear and concise. All the moves can be
observed several times because of the play-back feature. Very thoughtful indeed. Keep an eye on
this guy because I'm sure he will be putting out some excellent, well thought out magic routines in
the future. Oh yeah, he's also a classically trained pianist!! geeeez!....Namaste

Out of the more than half a dozon or so ways to get a coin through glass to this is the best one.
Speaking of a half a dozen, Rick gives you not one, not two, not three but multiple ways to have a
coin penetrate a cup. He could have just stopped after one or to ways but he goes into detail from
the beginning to end on how he came up with the ideas. And what I like tye most is that he even goes
into how do the routine with several different kinds of cups (I think like four ways). I have more
to say about this effect but I plan on doing a updated review on this trick when I start getting
back to practicing and performing so I can do a review on the spectator's reation from this effect.
Most likely its going to be a good reactions because I had a good reaction when I first saw tge
demo. And to think about it, this might even be one of the easier coin routines out mainly because
their is no palming or false transfers envolved. This is all about timing. And lastly for now, this
and Sankey's Insider card trick will be the first effects I master after I put together my trick
list book. Oh, since he gave you so many ways to do the trick you can actually choose which way or
ways you like the most. Filter = money well spent.

How many times are you asked to do magic or illusions when people either know or hear that you like
magic? How often do you have a few decks of cards or Magic Mints, or forks, or balloons...etc? There
has always been a time when you are asked to do magic without anything on you and this is a dvd that
can establish you as a magician who can adapt to only what he has. This dvd overall has some good
material for a fairly new coin magician, but some moves in the explanation can even add to the
skills of a seasoned veteran. Overall, a good purchase.

I would call this trick "Crazy Coin" for the simple reason is that one coin penetrates thru glass
just to be with the other coins already in the glass. This is a cool trick because you could borrow
the coins and use any glass. This trick is so simple yet it packs big and could be done
anytime, anywhere, without any preparation at all. I love this coin trick and I know you fellow
magician would too. Get it and the price is right!!

A great multi phase routine. Its hard to find a prebuild routine, that cycles ontop of it self to
amaze and at each phase baffle the audience more and more.
Only con is that angles are not your
frienx.

Really nice video and teaching of the effect. Several ways to perform this miracle are included.I
consider myself good with coins so I was up and running in 15 minutes after watching the DvD.
Nothing that I wouldn't use in a walk-around setting or even a parlour type show. The first time
they hear the coin penatrate the glass they never for a second belive anything but what you'll tell
them.
