A Wonderful Marriage of Wild Card & Three-Card Monte

It starts out easy enough...the magician displays a single 3 of Diamonds and plays a game of "one-card monte" with the spectator. Just to make things a little tougher, another card, the Ace of Clubs, is added which acts as the money card. After a few rounds, another 3 of Diamonds is added in and now the fun really begins.

No matter how hard they try, the spectator just can't follow the Ace! For the eye-popping climax, all of the cards are shown to have changed into the Ace of Clubs!

Outstanding Trick With Only A Few Criticisms Report this review

This is a great effect and I WOULD buy it again if anything ever happened to mine. This is something that you will have to practice a lot to be really good at it, so you have to be up for the challenge. The instructional video you get for this is ~4 minutes. I had to learn it by reverse engineering YouTube performances. I really like J.S. Magic's performance of Stand Up Monte.

Anyways, I received the Ace of Spades. My Ace of Spades do not exactly match anything I can find, whether new or old. If you are obsessive compulsive like me then this could torment you. On the other hand, the spectator is not likely to notice and you are not going to give the cards to them to inspect so the little differences in the Ace of Spades may not be noticeable.

Monte at it's best Report this review

This trick is pretty much like the Comedy Two Card Monte, but in my opinion it is better. Plus, the ending is a lot stronger than the two card monte. This is a classic move in magic turned into an entertaining routine. If you aren't familiar with this trick consider adding it to your next order and you'll be glad you did. You can expect good reactions from this trick too.

Ace of Spades hard to match Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on January 26th, 2017
I received Ace of Spades (instead of Clubs, as the instructions indicated) + 3 of Diamonds, and this makes it quite difficult to match, as the Ace of Spades has unique markings on it depending on the specific pack purchased. In the three bicycle decks I had around the home, they all had different things written on them (even though they were also 808 variety.

As-is, this is unusable out of the box. I'm going to have to order some new Bicycle decks and cross my fingers that I get one that matches this set. :(

Really wish this had included the matching regular cards as well.

Great effect but... Report this review

I love this effect, it's easy to do and engaging with the spectators. However when I first purchased this effect the tutorial was by Garrett himself (and was far more indepth) and you received all the cards you needed ie six now you just get two and have to supply the rest yourself. Now that might not be an issue for most but they have to come from a new deck so they match and for some younger magicians that is another outlay they might not have. This is essentially a packet trick and should come ready to perform with all the required cards. Overall a great effect but a bit penny pinching from Penguin so deduction of one star.

Greatest trick ever but... Report this review

I love this trick, I always get crazy reactions. It takes a little bit of practice, and is fairly easy to perform. However, they don't give you the regular cards that you need, only the gimmick. What is bad about it is that they use the Ace of spades (not the clubs, as the instruction paper included tells you. Because it's the ace of spades (literally the card that is unique with every deck) I have to have a regular bicycle deck in order to be able to perform it, which is a big letdown especially if you live somewhere where it's tough to get your hands on a pack of those. The trick is really worth it, so make sure you have a regular bicycle deck to be able to perform it. I wish they included the cards with it, would be much easier.

Great card effect!!! Report this review

Although this will take some hours to learn the routine, it is well worth the work! Every time I have performed this it has gotten great reactions. The included instructional video is poor, but Oz's performance is amazing. Many reviews spoke poorly of the written instructions, but I found them very helpful when coupled with Oz's routine.

I would recommend this trick to anyone who is willing to put in the time to learn it and wants great reactions.

As a side note, I even messed up the trick on two occasions and showed something I wasn't supposed to and my spectators noticed NOTHING! Even when flashing what was not supposed to be flashed I still got them.

Add this to your routine--you won't be sorry!!!

This trick is two things at the same time. First, not only one of the best montes around, but some of the best magic ever. It is also difficult to master.

I performed this one yesterday on my girlfriend who is usually half-convinced about the punch of most effects. This one made her frown in astonishment 4 or 5 times and she didn't have a clue how I did it. "The move" that everybody is talking about was undetectable to her even after a repeat. So only after performing it did I know: I have someting special here. BEFORE performing it I thought oh boy, this is never gonna work. I even thought the instructions were wrong where they weren't.

The only reason why I only gave it 4 stars is still because of the instructions that come with it. I am not even talking about the video, after all: it is what it is. But the written instructions must have been written by one of the most un-creative minds in magic, they give you the moves and their order and that's it (which under normal circumstances should be good enough).

All that without using spaces or paragraphs and since - when you break it down - there are about 20 different little moves and actions that have to flow into each other this is like reading some sort of computer language. (The D3 goes here, the Ace goes there....)

So please!!!:
Just throw in another piece of paper and use lots of paragraphs, will you? Otherwise, while fiddling with the cards, one always loses track of what one is doing. It took me around 6 hours to master this, constantly fooling myself in the process. It should be possible with decent instructions to bring this down to 2 or less. The handling itself is extremely easy and can be mastered by a complete beginner. I took off two stars only for that, the instructions are a desaster. I recommend to everybody buying it typing them into your own computer and adding lots of paragraphs. It will still save you lots of time.

A great trick Report this review

I first saw this trick performed on Ellen by Andrew Kelly and had to have it.
This DVD however is incredibly annoying to follow along with. Don't explain more advanced moves and thing's I might like to do once I've master it before teaching the basics, it's just confusing.

The most helpful way to learn this is from a perspective view of the magician, not sitting across the table from the magician. I had an easier time copying Andrew Kelly's performance on youtube simply because it showed the trick from his perspective and still looks amazing.
