Here's the thing, this gimmick is very cool. It's very clever and pretty easy to use.
The
bad thing is, the spectator cannot look directly at the card at any time without the card being
switch out first. That's BOTH sides of the card that cannot be directly viewed by the spectator
without somehow obscuring their vision with movement or lighting. This is no way a practical effect
for a strolling magician. Fine for camera.
Also my gimmick broke in 10 mins. Materials are
given to fix it, but it is quite precise and i really can't be bother fixing it as I'm never going
to use this trick at a show.

First, there is no live audience performance, that is the biggest giveaway regarding what this
gimmick is all about. Rick does it to his laptop camera at starbucks, rather than to a random
person. Second, the trick itself is not that impressive, quite lame, has very little possibilities
etc most lay men people realize it is a trick card. Third, in order to perform this trick one must
purchase a separate deck because you can't perform it with what's provided in the packet. Fourth, for
the price there are plethora of other Rick Lax products and other magic products who are much
cheaper and bring about greater reaction ie Binary Code, Ghost Clip,Vuja De, Eraser etc etc. Fifth,
the tutorial is like 8 minutes and they teach one literally one trick. Should be a coolbox offer. In
all, in my opinion its quite limited and dissapointing. Sorry but I put it in my junk drawer.

I honestly cannot think of any situation in which I would use this. This is only going to be good
for doing a trick on YouTube. I would strongly discourage anyone from purchasing this.

SHADOW SPLITTER is ALOT of fun!! Such an incredible piece of magic that requires minimal sleight of
hand for an actual believable routine. The gimmick provided is unique, clever and fascinating. Such
wonderful craftsmanship went into the creation of this crazy cool device. I was practicing a move I
saw Rick Lax perform on his tutorial (who is, by the way, "bleeping" hilarious!) and as I was doing
it I hadn't realized my fiance' was watching me from the stairs. All I heard from behind me was
"HOLY (insert expletive)!!" And I turned around to see her eyes bugging out as she was watching me.
"THAT'S FRIGGIN AMAZING!" she declared ... which coming from a woman has witnessed me perform
thousands upon thousands of card tricks and the like is an impressive statement all on it's own.
MAJOR KUDOS, Hui Zheng!! Thanks!

Love this thing. I can't begin to imagine how hard these cards are to make, but somehow Hui has done
it. Bravo, sir!

Nice gimmick very well made, however not practical for presentation.
This is shadow/ silhouette
magic. Card cannot be handed out for inspection. A 5 for construction. A 2 for presentation.
Hello. My name is D., and I have OBO--Open Box Obsession.
When I see a product in the Open
Box and the price is extremely low, I can't help myself. I click "Add to Cart" and buy it, in spite
of the negative reviews and the obvious flaws. This was the case with items like Sealed and Money
Shot (both garbage and collecting dust as we speak). My latest fall from grace: Shadow Splitter.
I knew exactly what the gimmick was, and how fragile it would be, and, most important, how
utterly useless it would be. I was right. I opened up the little envelope and thought to myself,
"You could've bought a burger at Wendy's and enjoyed yourself for at least 10 minutes" compared to
the 30 seconds I enjoyed toying with this gimmmick.
Rick Lax, god bless him, does his best
to give this thing wings, but it just isn't meant to fly. He mentions Mr. Zheng, a college student,
makes these by hand, and it appears he was up late studying while he made mine because it's shoddily
put together--terribly cut and off-center.
I'm giving this two stars because I want to
give props to Mr. Zheng for creativity, and to Mr. Lax for giving his time sharing ideas.
If you can find this in the Open Box...ugh, buy it if it's super cheap; otherwise, avoid your
OBO impulses and go get a cheeseburger from Wendy's. You'll thank me as the heartburn sets in.
I buy this because I believe this would be in limited quantities so limited person can access this.
This is the way it was advertise originally...well it still online after months and sometime on Open
Box...this is the reason for 1 star remove.
Hand made fragile gimmick (I remove a second
star for this). I believe this is way to fragile and will break easily.
Can potentially
create a good effect if done in proper place with proper light and minimum audience management.
THIS IS A SUPER VISUAL TRICK, REALLY EASY TO DO. THE BEST PART IS THERE IS NO OTHER TRICK LIKE IT. I
HATE MAKING GIMMICKS, SO THE FACT THAT A MASTER GIMMIC MAKER HAND CRAFTED THE GIMMIC IS JUST A
BONUS.
ONCE AGAIN RICK DOES HIS USUALLY GREAT EXPLAINTION.
ONCE AGAIN THIS IS ONLY
AVAIABLE HERE AT PENGUIN MAGIC.
GET IT FAST VERY FEW ARE MADE.
