"Consistently creative, innovative, and remarkable work." - Dan Harlan

“In rubber band magic, Joe inspires me the most and is definitely the most influential and contributory magician in this century. Don't miss out on his lecture!"- Hanson Chien

“I've always been influenced by Joe Rindfleisch. He still inspires me by creating new concepts and genres using nothing but rubber bands. It's amazing how a simple object can be so powerful in his hands!"- Marcus Eddie

What will he teach?

In this rubber band only lecture, Joe Rindfleisch will perform and teach more than twenty of his original rubber band effects. The material will be separated into three separate acts, and there will be something for everyone. Joe will cover routines for beginners as well as seasoned rubber band enthusiasts.

Act I

Rubber Band Up Nose: A rubber band is held at the fingertips and snorted into the performers nose.

Snack: Joe swallows a rubber band then brings it back.

JoDan Link 2.0: Joe’s improved version of Impromptu linking rubber bands.

Remote Link: Perform the linking rubber bands in the spectator’s hands.

Interweave 2.0 & Twisted: a multi-phase routine were two bands penetrate one another.

One t(w)o One: A rubber band is caused to split into two and then merges back into one.

Ultimate Jump: A rubber band is wrapped around the first and second fingers and impossibly jumps to the second and third and fourth fingers while spectators hold onto the tips of the fingers.

Act II

Squeaker: An amazing new way to use a squeaker.

Double Jump: An amazing effect where a band jumps from one hand to the other, twice!

New Thumb Penetration: An updated and improved way to do the classic thumb penetration.

All Thumbs: Cause a rubber band to penetrate through both thumbs.

Hang Man: A two-part routine where a rubber noose is placed around the finger and it magically escapes.

Tight Jump: A rubber band is wrapped around the first finger of one hand and jumps to the first finger of the other.

Bustin’ Knuckles: A Multi-phase routine where a rubber band passes right through the fingers. Each time becoming Progressively more difficult.

Act III

Square: Joe teaches one of his brand new 3D Designs

Streamlined Crazy Joe Handcuffs: Joe shares many new ideas on Arthur Setterington’s penetrating bands.

panS! Reload: A new take Joe’s broken and restored rubber band. Jumper: Magically pluck a knot off and return it to the rubber band.

Rubber Exchange: Cause two rubber bands to magically change places over and over again.

The Gift: Joe teaches an improved method of his best selling effect.

By the way, you might want to consider purchasing some of Joe’s special bands so you can follow along with props in hand. Joe’s bands, treated with his special compound “Elastraflex”, are stronger, stretch further, and will make the learning curve less steep.

Who is he?

Joe has been creating some of the most visually appealing magic for more than twenty-five years. His original effects have appeared in magical periodicals like Apocalypse, Trapdoor, Precursor, Minotaur, MAGIC and Genii. Stephen Minch authored a book of Joe’s rubber band effects in Elastrix Volume II. In addition to his published material, Joe has produced twelve DVD’s and Digital downloads.

In the past few years, Joe has taken the art of Rubber band magic to new heights. Using nothing more than a few rubber bands, he recently received a standing ovation at Obie’s 4F Convention for his act with rubber bands. Joe also produces the very best rubber bands coated with Elastraflex. Currently there are fifteen different colors of bands in his product line.

Joe lives in Nutley, NJ with his wife and four children.

Good Magic, Rough Delivery Report this review

Every illusion is ultimately taught well....eventually. Joe gives great tips and advice. The others also added a good amount.

But the rhythm of the lecture is plodding. There is a lot of superfluous and unnecessary talk. Joe's flow chart for the points of the illusion, while obviously good for him, was a long and overly analyzed.

There were a number of times I picked up rubber bands to practice along only to put them back down because Joe thought of something else he wanted to add.

I feel what was taught could have happened in a more fluid, organized manner and have taken about 1/2 to 2/3 of the time due to these drawbacks.

These drawbacks are the reason for a lost star. I feel a lecture to fellow professionals should have the same rehearsal and focus on delivery to us as the magician puts into rehearsing and performing the illusions for the lay public. Yes...I'm that much of a perfectionist.

I almost passed on this. I already have a couple rubber band effects, and I didn't think I needed more! This is like the master class of rubber band magic. I love the teaching and preparation that went into this. My only regret is that my job consumes too much of my life. I just don't have time to master (or even watch) all of this right now.

I have watched a lot of the lectures here at Penguin and this might be the most worker's packed, so far! As a full-time professional close-up entertainer for the past 34 years and a residency at a local restaurant, I am always looking for something new to offer my regular clientele. I usually find one or two things in each lecture which will work in my real world environment, but I'm using almost everything from this one! Not only are the individual routines highly usable, but the thinking behind Joe's construction is invaluable to every other thing you do! I got Joe's rubber bands last year, thinking they couldn't be that much better than what I was using, but they are. If you have rubber bands on your wrist for any single trick, you owe it to yourself to watch this lecture. You will get an arsenal of magic that will blow your spectator's minds! Thanks Joe!

I've been fooling around with rubber bands since Elastrix 2 and Dan Harlan's VHS videos appeared. Not to take anything away from Dan's videos, but this lecture by Joe is a definite tour-de-force on rubberbands!

Joe starts from the very beginning and goes through effects in great detail, laying out an entire theory and plan for not only learning but performing and remembering everything.

If you've never worked with rubberbands, this is the place to start. If you already do, you'll want to get this to stay on top of it.

OK first off I have to say I did not want to buy different elastics then what I am used to but man does it make a difference. Secondly this lecture is packed with enough rubber band magic that there is no need to pick up anything else. Take my word for it and just get it. Packs small and plays big

I guess it depends what you want. I wanted to learn some rubber band tricks. And this is not that!
This was a 3 hour Master Class on Band magic, by some of the best at it. & Very technical.
And for me, the worst was that it is 3 hours long, and there is no index at all. There is a PDF that lists what's discussed, but it's impossible to know where on this 3 hour video to find it without watching all 3 hours. I checked with Penguin and they said it simply wasn't done back when this dvd was made. Be prepared to watch all 3 hours and keep copious notes of whats where so you can go back and find what you want.
So, if you're a pro who wants to go on a deep dive rubber band journey, Sign up. But, if you just want to learn some trick I would look to some of the rubber band dvd's.

Great effects, Inferior teaching Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on December 19th, 2019
I certainly will be using some of this in a show I’m writing. Joe’s performance scripts are lame, but that leaves lots of room for me to write my own scripts, and that’s my strongest suit. For example, while Rubber Exchange has some REALLY striking visual moments, the possibilities fit patter are immense in the context of the show I’m writing.

Joe’s teaching is hugely benefitted by the fact that he clearly understands every millimetre of what he’s doing. It’s hard to imagine anyone else with a better understanding of all the mechanics that are involved. On the other hand, he tends to under-describe many specifics. SO often, he says things like “grab the rubber band” instead of “grab the fourth strand”, or “put you finger in the opening” when there are 4-8 possible openings.

By the way, Dan Harlan added a lot. His commentary and insights were very helpful. He’s an excellent host!

On the whole, while Joe’s verbal skills could be much better, there is some really excellent magic in here. This is my first Penguin Live lecture, and I got even more out of it than I thought I would. Thanks, Joe and thanks Penguin!

TMI (in a good way.) Thorough teaching with breadth and depth. Solid work for rubber band magicians beginners through advanced. And I especially liked the new subtleties to make existing effects more astonishing. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity with this one, Joe. It's a keeper!

Worker and visual magic at its best Report this review

I am somebody who does not do a ton of rubber band magic other than crazy man's handcuffs. But Joe's material has changed that. This is highly visual and worker magic. Since rubber bands do not take up much pocket space, you can keep a few on you and always be ready. If you are a restaurant worker, there are at least a dozen ideas here perfect for that venue (especially if your restaurant has kids.) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Better than expected Report this review

I assumed this would just have some new rubber band effects but this was so much more. I'm only 1/3 of the way through and Joe hasn't even taught too many effects yet but his advice and subtleties on rubber band tricks that I and most other people already do are just so great. Highly recommended. Probably my best purchase in terms of stuff in actually going to use.
