"His is the second greatest Miser's Dream routine in the world... next to mine, of course!" - Jeff McBride

"They should get it because success leaves clues!" - Jack Goldfinger said this regarding Robert's "Naughty & Nice" Rope Routine

"'The advertising video doesn't do it justice. The expectations I had for the quality and versatility were far exceeded once I had the item in hand." - Francis Menotti who fooled Penn and Teller on their TV show had this to say about Robert's "MagicPad" trick in one of the last issues of MAGIC Magazine

Who is he?

Robert Baxt is proud of the fact that he has never had a "real" job. After putting himself through college with money he earned from doing kids' birthday party shows, he was presented with the dual opportunities of being accepted to both Ringling Bros. Clown College, and to Law School. Without hesitation, our hero chose the one that would better for his comedy career: Law School! But after graduating with a juris doctorate degree and taking the Bar exam, Robert never practiced law and proceeded on to a full time career in show business.

With his comedy magic act, he won both the 1st Prize in the National I.B.M. Gold Medal Stage Competition (Lance Burton handed him the trophy and Robert claims it still has his DNA on it!), followed the next year by a FISM trophy for Comedy in Madrid, Spain.

He has performed in Las Vegas, on Cruise Ships, and at Magic Conventions around the world. He has a line of Comedy Magic Routines available for other performers at http://robertbaxt.com/shop.html and writes jokes for other performers. Penn and Teller performed his version of the Newspaper Tear on their "Fool Us" TV show and Joseph Gabriel had this to say about him: https://youtu.be/QIupYX39l8A

He makes his home in Los Angeles, California where he spends his time with his wife and young son going out on acting auditions. As an actor, he can be seen in the eighth season of the CBS hit TV show "How I Met Your Mother" playing the lawyer partner to actor Jason Segel (Marshall).

What will he teach?

His lecture is on Comedy Magic. There will be no knuckle busting sleights and NO CARD TRICKS! Just lots of real workers material for stage and parlor that packs small, plays big, and leaves an audience laughing and happy and wanting more.

The lecture will include some of his most famous and well known bits like his mouth coil routine which got the "Worker of the Week" and a 98% score from the Wizard Product Review in England.

And his work on the Torn and Restored Newspaper as recently performed by Penn and Teller on their hit TV show "Fool Us", plus his closing effect in almost every show he does, his Bottle & Bag Baffler: The "NO EGG" Egg Bag!

I had the pleasure to be a part of the studio audience for Robert Baxt's Lecture, and what a great Lecture it was! Robert is a true worker, he teaches many awesome and hilarious routines that are just so practical. One of the things that makes Robert stand out from other Lecturers is that I truly enjoyed the entire lecture! He was not only entertaining and funny during the presentation, but also through the explanations!
Some of my favorites from this lecture are the Misers dream, Mouth coils, ash on hand, and his egg bag. But, honestly, there is just so much great stuff that it's hard to narrow it down!
He also talks about how to maximize the number of people leaving good reviews.(which I guess it works, because here I am writing one!) but I have already made money use if this technique!

Please do yourself a favor and get this!

This is a great preview of Robert Baxt's dealer items that are for sale on Penguin Magic. Part lecture more dealer demo. You will get a partial breakdown of every trick and routine Robert performs in the lecture, but he doesn't tip the complete goods on anything. Instead he ends each demonstration with a product pitch since most of the tricks in the lecture are dealer items he has previously released. You do get a lot of Robert Baxt's philosophies on magic and perhaps for some guys that will be enough. It wasn't for me, but hey some guys like chocolate, some guys like vanilla, and some like Rum Raisin.

Robert Baxt is an extremely talented guy. His performances are full of energy, plenty of magic and a laugh a minute – No! That is not accurate. Robert Baxt’s performances are several laughs per minute!

In this lecture, Robert shares many of the awesome effects he is known for. They are full of mystery and comedy potential. They certainly fit the “pack small, play big” category that many of us are looking for. I am working on several of the gems from this lecture and am excited about adding them to my performances.

Robert is a great teacher and generously shares his thoughts on how to get maximum entertainment from your magic. He has a unique and very refreshing approach to many of the classics of magic. I consider this lecture to be a great investment in my magic journey! I highly recommend it.

Simplicity that kills! Report this review

Robert Baxt gives us something special here; his brilliantly simple and effective secrets! As a working pro, he does not want to get bogged down with hours and hours of prep, so he has spent his career creating magic that preps easy, packs small and plays huge. And it does. Robert truly thrives on giving old classics something new and exciting. Secretly, one of my favorite ideas he shares is a new take on Billy McComb's McCombical, where he eliminates playing cards completely and uses something new and fresh: cereal boxes. It's relatable to children and is just a fun twist on the classic. There are so many wonderful ideas in this lecture that if you don't find something you will add to your act, you are probably dead. Most generously, he explains his wonderful work on the Newspaper Tear (Better Newspaper Tear) and this alone is worth the cost of the lecture but you will find sooooo much more that is magical and fun to do. You won't be taking a "chance" when you buy it. You will be getting something truly remarkable.

Just Great! Report this review

I bought this just for the advice on getting reviews - and it was a pleasure to watch it all.

Robert Baxt is a working pro, and something that most working pros do is keep it simple, and that he does.

His "shtick" is what is fantastic. He is very funny, sometimes corny, relatable and reminds me of a barker at an old-timey circus/fair.

This is easy, nearly fail-proof, proven magic that packs small and plays big. if you are looking for the "cool" magician type of presentation, this is not it. He is down-to-earth funny.

Robert Baxt is a working professional who thrives on simple ideas that pack small and play huge. His style of magic reminds us that we don't always have to learn a difficult sleight to have the impossible take place in the best of all possible ways. Clever, funny and full of charm, Robert takes us on a journey of killer routines that have become a staple of his repertoire. Kindly, and generously, he gives away some of his best and most diabolical secrets. This lecture is packed to the brim with Robert's twists on some classics and much more. Working pros and hobbyists will absolutely find something they will love, live and use in their act. Secretly, one of my favorites of the evening was his unique take on Billy McComb's genius McCombical Deck. He gives it a vibrant freshness with a new handling involving cereal boxes instead of that dreaded deck of cards. This is a completely loaded and invaluable lecture and it comes highly recommended!
