As the tale goes, the hobos of the Great Depression used to spend excruciatingly long hours, or even days, about trains moving from one place to another. They would bide their time by carving their signature imagery into the famed "Buffalo Nickels", turning them into exclusive works of art to be traded, and more importantly, recognized for their craftsmanship and prestige within this subculture. The Hobo Nickel originators are now famed for creating, not just a modified coin, but an exclusive, sculpted work of art. If you held one of these coins, it was your key to the underground.

The Grifters coins are imagined reality based on the legacy of the Hobo Nickels of the early 1900s. With an antique style, patina-silver finish, the Grifters have been handworn in the Murphy's manufacturing lab to reduce 'talking' and increase the glide that many top coin men cherish. Grifters have a fine-milled edge for stable gripping and have been shaped and weight matched to the specifications of a US Kennedy Half Dollar so that most coin workers can be immediately familiar.

- Antique silver-patina finish
- Finely milled edges for best handling and noise reduction
- Hand-worn surface for smoothness and glide
- Scuff and scratch resistant, built for toughness
- Matched weight and dimensions of a Kennedy Half Dollar

Included with the package are seven classic beginning coin effects and several handling techniques that are perfect for taking your first step into coin magic.

Grifters are your tokens of access to a hidden world and accepted by only those who know... "Fallaces sunt rerum species".

Nice looking coin! Report this review

Well worth what I paid for it. Half dollar size coin but feels a bit lighter, maybe it's just me. The video by Branden Wolf is helpful as well! I hope they will have matching gaff coins later.

I had a set of 4 of these from a few years ago and thought I'd replace a couple lost over the years. I was aware of the updated pressing but am surprised at how vastly the quality has declined. The new pressing no longer has milled edges or a debossed imprint. The coin edges are now smooth and the "engraving" of the shill is extruded relief nightmare making it almost double the width of the previous generation. I'll attempt to sand these down to something workable but don't have high expectations.

They changed it. Report this review

I bought a Grifters coin when they first came out and loved it. But I followed the instructions to soften it and wasn't sure I liked it so I wanted to buy another that I could keep in original condition. And I finally did.
It's been a while since these coins first went on sale and this new Grifters is different in a few ways.
First it is un-milled, which I feel makes palming a little harder. I have the same issue with Chinese coins.
Secondly it is thicker. And because of that, it's 5g heavier which along with the lack of milling might make palming more difficult than it needs to be.
Otherwise it's a great coin for using in your routines if you like having stories to go with your props. And you might not be bothered about the above changes.
The tutorial by Brandon Wolf is great too. Basic, but good. Just what a beginner needs to get them started. Don't expect it to cover all the things you see in the trailer because those moves are a bit more advanced. But this will get you going and wanting to learn more.

I like the coins and the DVD. There is good information on there and a method to soften coins. Dollar grifters need to be next

Not even close to the trailer. Report this review

Fair basic training but does not teach the illusion performed 3 times in the trailer! Customer service was useless in providing any support when asked about why this information/instruction was lacking in the video.

OK the demo video might show a trick that isn't taught in the tutorial but it is still a low priced bargain for the coin and the tutorial.

I have to say that this gimmick and tutorial is a sleeper that I did not expect. Its a fantastic primer for coin magic done slowly and clearly.

I really like the fact it helps you learn the basic moves and terms you need to know.

Well done and worth the price.

Thank you
