Nick Trost is well known for his simple, easy-to-do brand of card magic. He uses subtle moves and principles rather than difficult sleight of hand to produce entertaining card effects.

This book contains 122 of his best tricks, plus variations of these effects by fellow magicians. Most of the tricks have been gathered from his column in The New Tops and from his manuscripts, books and marketed items. All of the material has been revised and rewritten especially for this book. There are also many new, unpublished items here that are sure to delight the card magician.

Among the tricks included are such gems as Double Pinochle with an Elevator Finish, Matched Picture Cards, Eighteen-Card Poker and Blind-Sight. All of the tricks are described with easy-to-follow instructions, accompanied by 161 clear illustrations by Joseph K. Schmidt.

Here are a few of the areas covered:

  • Coincidences
  • Court Cards
  • The Four Aces
  • Gambling Tricks
  • Revealments
  • Special Decks
  • Packet Tricks
  • ESP Cards

Also included is an appendix of useful sleights and subtleties.

This is Nick Trost's best and most complete book of card magic. It is hoped you will find many worthwhile effects here to add to your repertoire.

I heard a lot about this book and Nick Trost before buying this book. And all the great things that I heard were absolutely true. This is a must-have for any card magicians library. As advertised, he used clever subtleties and principles and some basic sleight-of-hand to produce phenomenal card effects. These are not effects for strolling or "street magic". These are meant to be performed at a table. Do not let the fact, that the tricks are easy, discourage you from getting this book. The effects are awesome and magical. Get this book while it's back in print. While you're at it, grab his SUBTLE CARD CREATIONS three volume set. The first volume is hard to find however, but it would be worth the effort. His three volume series pretty much follows the same spirit and format of this book. Add to Cart. You won't regret it. I promise you that you will find at least a nice handful of routines that you can add to your arsenal.

I really like this book. It has a lot of great self-working (almost!) material in it, but the one thing I don't like is the writing style. The trick descriptions and explanations are just, well, bland. There is a lot of great material in it though. There's a great sequence of "out of this world" type effects that I absolutely love, and there's some great thinking in here. I still refer to this book occasionally, and I know others will get good use out of it. For me, this is a great book to glance through and absorb piece by piece with cards in hand. I would say great value for the money though.

This book comes highly recommended by a lot of magicians. Aldo Colombini suggest to me to look into Nick's books. Trost is the master of taking someone else's trick and turning it into a masterpiece. Usually, Trost simplifies the routine by removing difficult sleights. Most of the material in this book is simple - not self working but limited to easy sleights and concepts. There is a scetion in the back of the book that teaches all of the sleights that you'll need.

The books is broken into sections such as Court Cards, Packet Tricks, Gambling routines, ESP Cards and much more. The trick that is worth the price of the book is his 8 Card Brainwave. Overall this book is a great value, packet with enough material to keep you busy for years to come. Beginners to Experts will like the material. His teaching is a little sparse, with few words. But then again, the tricks are simple to begin with. Enjoy!
