"I am excited about this book...This collection oozes style and substance from a true auteur."
- John Bannon, from the foreword

John Guastaferro embodies everything one admires in a magician: he is smooth but not flashy, soft-spoken yet in control. And he is an expert at crafting intelligent magic tricks. For the first time ever and exclusively with Vanishing Inc., John Guastaferro is releasing his first hardbound work - One Degree. With over 150 pages and 240 photos, this elegant, refined collection is comprised of 20 professional card routines and five essays. One Degree features some of the most artistic, refined close-up material to come around in ages.

One Degree explores the small, intentional improvements you can make to elevate the impact of your magic and help you connect more intensely with your audience. Too often we are led to believe that great results require massive changes. John Guastaferro believes that the extraordinary is closer than we think...just one degree away.

MORE PRAISE FOR ONE DEGREE:

"John is unquestionably one of the best minds in magic today...a master of the art."
- Jack Carpenter

"It has been a long time since I read a book where with every routine and every utility move, I said to myself, 'That is going into my repertoire!' One Degree is such a book and belongs in every cardician's library."
- Allan Ackerman

"One Degree satisfies and illuminates to the nth degree!"
- Jon Racherbaumer

"Few creators in our field are so gifted that they leave the patina of their ingenuity on everything they touch-John Guastaferro belongs to this select lot. To see his work brought together in a book, one as beautiful as this, is a joy."
- David Regal

"Many authors try to articulate their inherent enthusiasm for their own creations, often with considerable vividness and opulence. The risk is that the ideas being conveyed fall short of the build-up. John Guastaferro has taken that risk in One Degree-and has come up a winner! Even if he had presented his creations unvarnished and ungarnished, they would have provided their own hype and excitement. Readers will quickly recognize that John, perhaps uniquely, has constructed his tricks, first and foremost, with his spectators in mind."
- J. K. Hartman

This book is unbelievable. I've read half of the book and it's already worth the $50 I paid for it. The tricks are intermediate and require previous knowledge in sleight of hand, but if you're like me and made it through Card College, looking for some tricks with good structure to apply your skills to, this is it. I don't know why this book isn't more popular! The only fault of this book may be that a few of the effects are a bit to long and winding, but just don't use those--go for the gold. There's tons of gold in here.

Great book for card magicians. Many of the routines are "workers" and need no setup or difficult sleights. Instructions with lots of pictures, easy to follow. Recommended.

One of the best books I own Report this review

I got this book for the Homage to Homing trick. I am not disappointed. It is one of those tricks that floors people. The best part is that it is completely impromptu. Although you do have to have some previous knowledge on card technique, it isn't too hard. The level of difficulty is intermediate to advanced for some of the effects, but nothing too daunting

So far, I have learned two tricks (including Intro-verted) and I am anxious to learn more. I felt justified for the the two tricks alone, but there is so much material to keep me busy for until the summer. This is a definite buy if you want material that isn't overly exposed out there

Andi and Josh from Vanishing Inc. out did themselves with this book design and layout. It is hands down the great looking book I own, not to mention the content!

John Guastaferro's essays will get you re-thinking a lot of how you perform the current tricks you already do. How the smallest change in patter, timing, structure of the effect can change your spectators reactions immensely.

John's effects are straight forward, clean handling, structured around a great presentation. What more can you ask for. 20 effects (that you will use! no filler in this book, you get nothing but gems), 5 essays, and to top it all off it looks good on your bookshelf.

Any serious student of card magic that doesn't own this book is missing out.
