I have wanted to get a really nice set of color changing knives for a while. I searched all the
magic sites. Penguin had the best price around. I was thinking of Mogar stag suprize set. My wife
says I take to long to actually buy something I want. I am so happy that I didn't wait with these.
They are GREAT. I was really impressed by the fit and finish of these knives. They look like a knife
your grandfather would carry. Which really opens up alot of patter possibilities. If the become
available again don't wait.

These are beautiful knives! They are real knives with a definite "color" contrast. And they are
simple to manipulate.
The mother of pearl is smooth and the stag is slightly textured. I perform
a phase where I transpose a knife held by me with the other knife held by an audience member. At
first, I was concerned that the person would feel the difference between the knives, but I have
never had a problem!
I highly recommend these knives for any magician wanting to perform an
elegant routine!
Seeing the color changing knives is what made me want to be a part of magic when I first saw them,
but I felt so awkward introducing a small plastic "pen knife." Why would I be caring a pen knife?
These make sense and don't raise eyebrows as a trick. I'm so glad to have a knife set that feels so
unassuming! They also handle very well after getting a feel for the size and the blades. If your
performing the knives you really should get them. And if you don't perform the knives you should
start.
Outstanding set of knives. Takes a bit of getting used to because of the size. However it makes it
all the more impressive when you master it. Get this while you can.
I have performed this trick for years and have owned many different sets. Without a doubt this is
the best set I have ever owned. They look like real pocket knives that someone would carry and with
a little effort your results will be outstanding. Buy this before they are gone.
These are beautiful, well made knives. They have several well thought out and useful features such
as the built-in ability to tell which side is up while the knife is still in your pocket. Having
double bolsters is great for deceptiveness as is notching the blades on both sides.
However
the knives are too fat IMHO. Two blades would have been better than 3. The goal of a square
cross-section is great for the paddle move and this could have been accomplished with two blades
that were thinner and an overall smaller cross sectional area.
Also, some of the more
powerful routines call for more color options, e.g. red/red, red/white, red/yellow and yellow/white,
or the use of a knife 2/3 one color and 1/3 another color on the same side for a "visible" change.
These options aren't available with this set.
Additionally, moves using two gimick knives
(I bought two gimmicks for this set) in one hand to execute a double turnover aren't practical with
these fat knives (see Ascanio - DRY reading but great stuff...). Except for these issues, would
have given 5 stars.
If all you want is a 3 knife set for a simple routine and have fairly
big hands, this is a great item. Also Penguin's price is $25.00 off everybody else's price, at
least as I type this.
This set of knives is a thing of beauty! As a knife collector as well as an amateur magician, these
knives are appealing in many ways. They are gorgeous knives that would be carried by anyone who
uses pocket knives. The material is superb and the color change of the scales is dramatic. They are
a bit larger than most color-changing knives which makes them highly visible but you may have to
alter the handling to suit the size. The heftier size takes a little getting used to but with
little practice feels very good. My style of presentation is slower and more deliberate than some
of the routines I've seen, so even though I have smaller hands, the size is not a factor. I'm not
sure how easy/ difficult the knives are to use in a more rapid-fire performance. This is a very
"professional" set of knives, suited for one who is familiar with the moves, but could be used by a
novice with practice. Highly recommended!
These are one of the best CC knives you can buy at any price, but, it could better. The knives are
just one blade too thick for optimal handling. I have a medium sized hand so the action is a little
clumsy for my liking.
This is one of those products you need to handle first, then yo can
decide if it right for you.
My brown/brown knife was noticeably darker on one side than the other. While this does not affect
the function, it was not what I expected.
I am both a knife collector and an amateur magician. I always felt that the knives used in the
color changing routine looked cheap. These knives are gorgeous and I would carry one in my pocket
everyday.
