This time I am offering you very strong routines that require a little bit more sleight of hand than those I usually put in print. I have built my reputation on fairly easy material with simple and subtle moves. I have kept the subtleties, however in this effort, I am giving you more difficult routines that are geared toward pleasing not only the viewers, but yourself and your 'ego.' Some routines are 'closers' or, as Harry Lorayne would say, Reputation Makers! I encourage you to explore variations better suited to your manner of working. Put forth the right attitude, as Lou Holtz said, "Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it."
Every single routine is audience tested and is (or has been) in one of my acts. Many of the effects contained in this chapter can be tied together to form a longer (and stronger) routine, whole acts in themselves. For example, I use the first five routines as an act. They follow each other with magical fluidity, transmitting the idea of a definitive ending to the onlookers. (You will understand what I mean when you study them).
This book started out as an idea for a new set of lecture notes, but as I was writing, I realized that I was not writing in the manner of lecture notes. I have included the smallest details (excluding some moves that by now should be fairly known by most) and a good number of illustration have been added to make everything clear.
