mentalism

An exploration of what is humanly possible. A separation of the living and the dead.

A chance for your spectators to experience something they have not nor will ever experience again.

At 8PM 10 people sat down to dinner, by 10PM 8 of them were dead.

Each guest murdered by two sadistic serial killers in one of the most disturbing cases of cannibalism ever reported.

As you explain this horrific story, an envelope is handed to your spectator to hold. Next, 10 photos are introduced. It is explained that the killers are lost amongst the victims and it is down to your spectator to separate the living from the dead. 5 photos are handed to your spectator and 5 are kept by the performer. The spectator is instructed to hold the photos behind their back and slide one photo from the top to the bottom. They must keep doing this until they get a feeling, whatever feeling that may be.

Once they are satisfied, they are to remove the top photo and hold it behind their back being sure never to let go of it. The performer does the exact same behind his back. The remaining photos are exchanged between the performer and spectator. She is then instructed to place her photo in so that it is faced the opposite way to the other pictures and to mix them. Again, the performer also does this. Both stacks of photos are brought out and both the performer and spectator have one single photo turned, sight unseen the other way.

The envelope is brought back into play and the spectator tips out what is inside. Two photos that of a man and a woman. The killers. And although the spectator did not let go of their selection for a single second, and they have an undeniable account of what has happened, they slide their selection from their stack of photos and reveal it to be the same killer found in the envelope. The performer then does the same and is found to have selected the second killer.

But if all of this is true, then we would need evidence that those in the envelope really were the killers. At this time, the photos from the envelope are turned over to reveal the words KILLER scratched in blood red on the back of them. And every other photo? They have DEAD etched in blood on the back of them. Everything is examinable and the reset is instant.

Comes Complete with old looking Photographs (printed on thick card stock) , Black Envelope & Full Instructional DVD

I give it one star for the props. Alakazam put out some nice photos on a very strong stock. Other than that, I feel cheated. First off, the video is cut. It makes anyone watching it think that all the magic takes place in the Spectator and Performers hands. You put your hand behind your back, they do the same and then when they bring them out, the card is reversed and on to the reveal. NOT TRUE! Not even close to being true. Then there are other points that either stick out or make no sense. If you show this to someone pretty observant, they will question them. So many have said how great this is that I am going to give it a go. However, after opening this, watching the performance on the dvd, seeing how different it is from the performance demo, I definitely feel cheated!

Maybe there's something I'm not getting. But it seems like even according to the performance the performer is making one of the two decisions. How is this impactful? It's not. This is very weak in my opinion. way too much of a specific procedure with behind the back and changing packets - the procedure alone reeks of confusion.

This has two components: a potentially spooky story and the magic that supercharges the spookiness. Both aspects of the effect as presented are problematic. The props and the basic ideas are good, though, and if you put in enough of your own work, it could be a very fun and spooky trick. It’s just a shame that the creator didn’t do this himself.

As for the first, unfortunately, Jamie Daws hardly tries to tell a story on the DVD, which is a discussion w/ Dave Loosely rather than a full performance -- he essentially only indicates the kind of thing that should happen (the written description of the effect is much better, but not detailed enough). If you're good at it, you can fix this yourself (but at this price, a full, well-written script would be appropriate).

As for the magic, it has 3 problems. First, this is a variation on a do-as-I-do card trick, but not as good because here the magician is clearly responsible for fulfilling half of the two-part prediction. Second, the effect has a couple of other inconsistencies that attentive spectators could notice. Finally, spectator management is critical, and even the best efforts might fail occasionally.

That being said, the inconsistencies can be minimized with a sufficiently spooky presentation and the spec management risk is likely worth the payoff. To solve the first problem, you will have to find a way to “prove” the magician cannot “cheat.” There are ways to do this (I’ve found one that I like), but, again, I thought I was paying for someone else to do this.

In conclusion, if I had to do it over again, I would spend my money on a fully finished effect.

It did not get 5 stars only because I feel that even tho the cards a good quality...they are a bit small. The trick its self it can be very creepy when presented right.the first time I performed this was a party of at least 25 people and everyone got it and I got the how cool it's that from my spectator.just present it just like in the teaching, by the way it's nice to get a dvd instead of a download...
