Despite the name of the wand, this wand does not produce a flash of light like a flashbulb or camera flash, nor does it flash on and off. There is a button on/off switch in the handle, and the tip of the wand has a very, very bright LED. (Do not point it at anyone's eyes when on!) Press the button and the light goes on, press it again and it goes off.

This wand is identical in nature to many much less expensive wands that you can find on eBay, with one important distinction. This wand is USB chargeable. The eBay ones take batteries. Is that important to you? Is it worth the price differential? That's up to you. It was for me.
