This fan is made from rather thick paper, more like heavy cardstock. Plus, it is laminated, which makes it even thicker. The gimmick is easy to use and should last as long as the fan itself lasts. I use this as a quick attention-getter in the opening part of my show, and it always gets some o-ohs and a-ahs. It isn't large enough for stage use, but is just fine in a parlor/platform setting. This is not the most amazing trick, but I believe it is a good deal for the price and can be quite effective if used properly.
