After loving (or liking a lot) Classic Cinema Verite, I thought this might be a nice companion piece
-- and I liked the video. I had some idea how the both effects worked, but I was feeling expansive
and sprang for the $55.
The second effect (the appearance of the cover) is problematic, but
not out of the question. The problem was the DVD -- it required maintenance almost immediately and
that proved to create its own problems, which I tried to fix rather than attempt a return. The fix
just made things worse. The thing is now unusable.
If I was making a lot of money using
this effect, I would buy replacements when needed. But for the hobbyist, it's just not practical.
Finally, an email to the maker about expansion packs (which might solve my problem) went
unanswered.
Cost: $55. Value: Lesson learned.
When you say "it required maintenance almost immediately", can you provide a little more detail? I'm thinking of purchasing this and I can't see anywhere where this might go wrong and damage the gimmick (save for the cover, which after many uses may wear out). The part of the gimmick that "vanishes" to reveal the new dvd face seems to not be touched by the spectators at all, where can the problem arise? Like you said, its $50 so not cheap.
