First, I should say that I have Divorce by Justin Miller and Reflex by Patrick Kun. These are both
great $10 tutorials on ring magic. I have already developed my own ring routine based off
Divorce/Reflex and other tutorials and have been performing it for 6 years, with great reactions
100% of the time.
I bought NightCrawler because I thought the move where he makes the ring
jump from index to ring finger would be a good addition to my routine. The video goes very in depth
on how to do this move. This move looks very good.
I would say all the other moves in the
video, in my opinion, are not that strong; I won't be using any of them. A lot of the other moves in
the video are "flourishes" rather than "magic." Also, a lot of the other moves in the video are
sleights that I already knew how to do from watching Divorce/Reflex (although CF Yuen does them in a
different way).
So, I am disappointed that I paid $27 for one move. Really it should be $5
and should be a video download. I don't know why they have to send an actual DVD.
DVD
details: about 20 mins long including performance and tutorial. No spoken language. Just text and
music. Includes a lot of slow motion and multiple angles. Note that this is not a routine, rather
just a bunch of sleights which you will need to fit into your own routine.
In conclusion, I
would say CF Yuen is a good magician and his explanation is good. But the video is way overpriced
for the value. I would recommend Divorce/Reflex if you are starting out with ring magic. You can get
both of them for cheaper than this video. Buy this one last if you are still curious.
