Oof.
I’m really kicking myself for pulling the trigger too soon on this one. I got caught up in
the hype that this would be a great closer for your ambitious card routine. I guess the whole idea
of ACR to me IS THE SIGNED CARD. That’s the whole point. That’s what makes it cool. That’s what
sells it to the spectator that there are no duplicates. In this one Dan says that spectators will
always think that there are duplicates in this deck, and then he goes into various convincers and
methods for displaying the “dirty” cards and cleaning up the gimmick. The beauty of the signed card
is gone, and I’m feeling kinda hosed because I thought this trick was going to make use of a signed
card.
Nope.
Sigh.
I did indeed waste my money on this one, and I just don’t want
others to make the same mistake I did.
I admire Dan, and I think that he’s a good teacher, but
they beg us for reviews, and if I’m honest, this one for me is a big miss. I’m bummed I bought it. I
was really hoping for something I could use in my existing ACR.
Okay, I get it... you think the signed card is the only way to go. Well, why don't you simply perform Overly Ambitious as an opening phase before the card is signed? Or maybe you think a card vanishing from a spectator's hand is too strong as an opening?
Dan. You are exactly correct. I could tell by watching your video that this isn’t a signed card routine but I always do the first few moves of an ambitious card routine unsigned so that when it later is signed it’s even more amazing. I think this goes into my routine prior to the card being signed so that looking back they will never suspect a duplicate in the routine at any point.
The ad copy reads... "There is no better way to end your ambitious card routine. "
Yes, this is marketed as a complete ambitious card routine with a killer ending... and it is... but, if you think you must have the card signed, then use it as an opening... as long as you think you can follow A CARD VANISHING FROM THE SPECTATOR'S HAND.
If you could duplicate the signature, would this work as a closer for a signed card?
Touche tubamage, I assume your pondering I.E. Fax - Loki Cross, Clone, or Card College 5. That's the magician's thinking at work.
I know these are old comments, but I felt the need to make one anyway!
If you make a card dissappear from a spectators hand (not from a magicians hand) why the hell would they think about a duplicate? The card is gone in there mind!
I guess I felt the same urge that Blockbuddy did! I guess my confusion is...how can anyone watch the trailer for this trick and think that you can do it with a signed card?
The spectator is literally pushing the card, in their hands, into the packet they're holding, then Dan points to the rest of the deck and they go over and turn over their card. We all know magic isn't real, right? He isn't actually causing the card in their hands to materialize on top of the deck. I can see being mad if the trailer showed him using a signed card, but he doesn't, and I think the reactions kind of speak for themselves. I just think, as performers, you don't have to but the trick to understand you'd getting a gimmick and theirs a dupe involved. Leaving a less-than-favorable review for a trick that's doing what it promises (just not what YOU prefer) is always weird to me. If you can figure out a way to get a signed card to disappear from a spectator's hands and appear across the room, I will happily buy your solutionI Countless magicians perform ACR without a signed card, myself included, and the card VANISHES from their hands! Why would they suspect a dupe with this?
