I use a mat exactly this size which incidentally is 16" X 11". Mine you can 'roll up'. Of course
this one is on a solid base. For my card spreads, I can 'make the point' with it but I would NOT
want it any smaller especially for cards. (Penguin offers a smaller one). Among the reasons I like
this as you can always 'assure' the surface and the 'tension within the mat,'wherever' you may be
performing. That's 'Handy', for certain tricks. It's small enough to carry around, or, it can be
used as the primary performing surface at a table where you may be seated. My 'roll up' mat has
advantages, but can develop wrinkles in it. None in this one so far. It 'carries' well in any of
my 'carry on' luggage taking up minimal space and remains easily available to me should I need it.
I think with reasonable care, it's always going to look good. If not, I felt the price low enough
to be worth it to simply replace it. No need for that anytime soon. I do keep it in a fitted
plastic sheet and lint is easily removed with a lint 'roller' (Walmart). Office Supply places also
have heavy paper 'folios' in which this will carry well. Bubble Wrap could be made to work. For me
this is large enough to keep all my cards on the mat for virtually everything I do, but I 'practice
that' into my practices. You have to use the space 'efficiently' should you be doing multiple
spreads etc. to demonstrate whatever, at the same time, on this relatively small mat. It's a nice
'accessory'. I like it and am using it all the time for close up, notably cards. Thanks to the
'makers' of this product (they knew what we needed), and to Penguin for bringing it to us.
