Pros:
1. Very beautiful concept. Makes a book test into something beautiful by capturing
an imagined moment.
2. You may make it as personal as you’d like with the drawing
3.
Method is super easy to learn and is completely foolproof. You’ll learn it quickly and be able to
customize your presentation
4. Fits in your pocket so it’s great to carry.
Cons:
1. While it has haiku in both Japanese and English, the method does not allow it to work with
the Japanese only. This is disappointing to me as I work at Japan Society and wanted the trick so I
could have some mentalism that would overcome the language barrier.
2. For me, this isn’t
relevant, but maybe for you: this could be a hard trick to contextualize. I do two other poetry book
tests and I work in Japanese fine dining in NYC so having a haiku book isn’t that weird. Your
mileage may vary because once the trick is performed, the book can no longer be examined.
Summary: despite the language con, I am very happy with Haiku. The method is brilliant. There
truly is a free choice. It fits in a pocket, the payload can be as beautiful as you are able to
draw, I’ve performed Haiku about 50-60 times now and it kills every time. I’m a little worried that
the book is starting to get destroyed by riding around in my pocket all the time, but it also makes
it more believable that it’s my own book.
If you hate book tests, this is a book test you
will like. And penguin price is 10 bucks cheaper than elsewhere.
