First of all, I really love this trick. It's simple, can use a borrowed deck, and won't take long
to learn. It uses methods that most magicians will be familiar with, but it is the way he combines
everything together that's really genius. I'll definitely be using this one.
So why the 4
stars? Because it is another trailer that penguin decided to edit out a good bit of the
performance. I'm not sure why, because in my mind it doesn't reveal the method. I've been doing
magic for 20 years, and if I saw this live, I would have definitely been fooled. I knew before I
bought it that it was edited, it is pretty obvious, but I bought it anyway since it was only 10
bucks, expecting to be majorly disappointed like I have been with other downloads Penguin heavily
edits.
I already know what the comments will be..."they have to edit to protect the
secret". "No one would buy it if they can see the method". First of all, it is going to come out
in the reviews, so we are going to find out anyway. Why not just be honest up front and show the
whole trailer, instead of trying to sucker people into buying a trick, who will leave bad reviews
and deter others from buying it anyway. If a trick is so easy to figure out from watching a
trailer, then in my mind it's not that great of a trick to be sold.
I've been buying from
penguin for over 20 years. Back in the day the trailer was one camera, no frills, and usually Oz
showing the trick from start to finish. Sure I could tell when he was doing a double lift, palm, or
mercury card fold. But I still bought the trick because I wanted to learn all the nuances, his
thoughts, maybe additional handlings. And also it helped me stay away from tricks that I may not
have the skills to perform. For example if I see him do a mercury card fold, and if my mercury card
fold is lacking, I may pass on it. Or if it is a trick with a lot of patter, or do as I do, I
usually stay away...not my style. When penguin edits that stuff out I think it is misleading, and
false advertising.
Anyway I'll get off my soap box. Buy this trick. For $10 it is well
worth it.
Okay, so you know how it's done, now.
Would you agree that if they were to show the effect without any cuts there would then be a segment of people who would feel they did not get an accurate representation of the full performance even that way, given what you now know?
While they do their fair share of shifty cuts in promo videos, in this instance, I feel, without giving anything away, that the cut is actually a more fair representation since it's obviously there and what they are cutting won't be part of the effect for some people when doing this which can commonly be the case when it comes to mentalist style effects.
Anyway, I agree it's an awesome effect and anyone worried about what might have been cut, really shouldn't be.
