I vacillated between awarding 3 or 4 stars on this one. First, this is not meant as a slam, but is
meant to indicate only how much I personally enjoyed the lecture. Mr. Calabrese is not a teacher,
he is a performer. That is obvious. But it takes away from the lecture. I got the sense that his
lecture was presented in the same manner that he presents his magic. By this, I mean that he does,
in fact, tip the methods to his work. He is not, however, an excellent or even above average
teacher. Nonetheless, he is creative, and his IDEAS are good. But, again, his ideas are not
methodically taught. He speaks in a fast paced style that is sometimes hard to follow, from the
perspective of a teacher/student scenario. Of course, you have available to you the "rewind"
feature on these lectures, so you can go back and revisit any detail that he articulates or
demonstrates. In short, I am sure Mr. Calabrese could fool me or a layman with his tricks. And if
that is all you are looking for, this is the right lecture for you. If, however, you are looking
for an organized and methodical teacher who put some time into creating a presentation to facilitate
efficient learning by those watching this lecture … well, then you will probably find that this
lecture is a 3-star lecture like I did. Nonetheless, I am interested in seeing more of Mr.
Calabrese's work in the future.
