I am not going to go on and on about the marking system. Everything that can be said about how
deceptive the system is true. I have never been blessed with good eye sight, the best I can do is
20/20, but with a astigmatism. Which means everything is blurry until my mind corrects it. The best
I can do is read the marks from 4 feet away.
There are countless reasons why every serious
card magician should learn a stack. This deck follows the Mnemonica stack. I learned the stack using
a combination of methods. Although I did not use the method taught by Rick Lax. It is very close to
how I learned the position of each card. The next step is learning the number and the value of each
card synonymously. 52 is just another way of saying the nine of diamonds, and nine of diamonds is
just another way of saying 52. Once this has been achieved the Mnemonica stack has been mastered.
It's not good enough to know the position in the stack. It can take a magician places, but it's the
synonymous association that rises above the stratosphere.
Once the first half of learning
the basic stack has been achieved the second phase comes from repetition and muscle memory.
This is why I like this deck and why I am writing this review.
The marking system
on this deck serves two fold. Learning a new and deceptive marking system and by using it also
learn the number and value of each card synonymously.
I wish I had these when I was going
through the second phase. I have a deck of 808s with annotations in Sharpie. These would have been
so much more fun to use. I will however be using these to keep it fresh moving forward.
Needless to say a one way, numbered, and marked Mnemonica stack can prove deadly. Please beware
they come in a tuck case and not an apothecary cabinet.
