This trick, like many others, is made by the performance. The instructional video details multiple methods of getting peaks and doing reveals.
In said video, there are several creators that explain how to use their apps to expand on those options. That's great! Almost all of the apps are Apple based. That's not great...
I can confirm, however, that you do NOT need an iPhone to perform the trick and can generate multiple reveals (with an Android) if you learn how to manage your handling and off-beats.
