If you are wanting to learn effects, then I would recommend checking out getting Michael Ammar's
Live Lecture or Michael Ammar's Live Act from Penguin. While Ammar does teach some effects a lot of
what is covered is theory and stagecraft.
A few effects are not taught: his new gimmick
for the pencil thru coin; a card transposition; and phone in balloon (this one is not his to teach
which is understandable).
He quickly covers silk thru mic, little hand, his topit work,
cracked & restored phone screen, coin from credit card, the side steal, and an add a number effect.
If this is your first exposure to the workings of these effects, then you may want additional
tutelage which is why I recommend his other lectures & live acts.
Ammar goes in depth on
Crazy Man's Handcuffs, a coin switch, and serial number prediction. While the effects are nice, the
real value comes from him talking about how he created his set for Late Show with David Letterman;
how he selects effects; how he keeps his magic memorable; restaurant work; act structure; and a
variety of other stories.
