Nicely Made, But Not Really an Improvement Report this review

Unlike some other reviewers, I’m very much satisfied with the quality of the construction. But I agree that pitching this as “examinable” by spectators is absurd. You might let one hold or even write with it briefly before doing the effect, but a spectator who spends more than a few seconds genuinely “examining” it in their own hands is very likely to discover the method. (I can imagine a “locking” version I really would be willing to hand out, and am happy to buy if they ever decide to manufacture one…)

The OG version, by contrast, really IS examinable as soon as you get rid of one very easily-concealed item, and is frankly less suspicious precisely because it ISN’T a “nice” pen but looks like a generic cheapo plastic ballpoint you could plausibly “find” or “borrow” just before the effect.

I’m still glad to have and carry this one for contexts where a classier looking pen is more desirable, but ultimately I expect I’ll use the original a lot more often.
