I heard mixed things about the quality of this gimmick. So far, it's been working perfectly. I'll
update this review a few months down the line.
I've only done this twice so far. With that
said, I'm in love. There's been the trend recently of vanishing phone effects from Tobias Dostals to
Kyle Purnell's. Their effects are visual, but this effect is tactile, and I believe that's more
intimate and fooling than anything you can see.
There are multiple methods described on the
tutorial. My favorite is the third; is the easiest and super fooling. No one will question it.
I love this effect but I give it 4 stars because of this:
1. The gimmick works like a charm,
but I heard it might not last long. Fingers crossed that it continues to work.
2. The ad copy
is a bit misleading. Technically it CAN work with a spectators phone and technically it CAN work
with any phone case, but those are not taught. You'd have to give it a bit of thought on your end to
accomplish that.
3. The possibilities of different effects described in the trailer are not
taught in the tutorial. Some extra ideas are demonstrated but not taught. Personally, this is best
for the phone vanish effect.
4. I'm not a fan of the phone reappearing in your pocket. It feels
a bit anticlimactic and obvious, but that could be magician thinking. With a bit of thought, you
can make it appear anywhere, but the pocket reappearance is the only method taught. I got creative
and made it reappear in a folded envelope which has killed so far. I'm willing to share my handling
if anyone asks.
With all that said, I recommend this. It's been killer so far. It's a bit
expensive, but I love the effect that it accomplishes. If you like the tactile type of magic, than
try it out. If you want a more visual effect, go for Dropped Call or Optix. Recommended.
