Great cards (from the video, they'll be arriving soon). Great instruction, and nice presentation.
Easy to carry and will be a fun little item (and durable) to perform again and again. Well done.
Does this trick really fool anyone? I literally spotted the method instantly before ever hearing or knowing anything about it, so I showed the video to several other non-magician people to make sure it wasn't just because my mind thinks like a magician. Everyone of them ended up noticing how it was done. Most initially only noticed there was one or two other cards missing (which they may have considered choosing before deciding on theirs). It's just so obvious when NONE of the other cards are the same a few seconds later!!!
Also, the description talks about using SIX cards, which become FIVE, but in the demo video here, the performer only initially shows FIVE cards, which end up becoming FOUR. Why is that, and which way it actually supposed to be done? Is this an alternate routine described in the instructions?
I felt the same as Malinj63. most people know the vanishing of one card you think after showing a few cards (use different almost similar looking card). But can the cards be examined by the spectators immediately after the vanish? If can, then i would be interested and consider the 19.95 cost.
Hey Y'all,
Josh Burch here! I created this trick and wanted to talk about your concerns.

This is a version of the Princess Card Trick. If you're not aware of the history of the trick I'll fill you in on some of the details and what makes this version new and different from what has come before.
Before I talk about the history I'll answer your first question. YES, this trick is a real fooler the first time you see it, but it doesn't stand up to repeat viewings on a video like this. That's fine, we're all magicians here. I'm not necessarily trying to fool you, I want to give you something you can take and fool your friends with.
If you are on this site odds are you already know what the Princess Card Trick is. This version allows you to make the thought of card vanish completely and display the entire face of the remaining cards. The gaffs are also manufactured in plastic so that they are extremely durable and will last much longer than paper cards.
In 1921 T. Nelson Downs published the first versions of the Princess Card Trick. The most famous version of the trick was performed by Nate Leipzig and was performed for King George V. It used a switching method to show four completely different cards, but it was only ever presented as a mind reading effect. The thought of card never vanished. This version of the trick has been used regularly by the likes of Lance Burton, and Max Maven to great success.
The first time I saw this effect, I thought that I had witnessed devil magic! Of course the illusion falls away once you see it twice. This is the case with many magic tricks. Once is entertainment, twice is education.
Dai Vernon published Leipzig's routine in his Tribute to Nate Leipzig. A few variations by Vernon were also published in Expert Card Technique. Sufficeth to say that yes, this is a fooler. It uses a principle that has been fooling people for over 100 years.
"Also, the description talks about using SIX cards, which become FIVE, but in the demo video here, the performer only initially shows FIVE cards, which end up becoming FOUR. Why is that, and which way it actually supposed to be done? Is this an alternate routine described in the instructions?"
I prefer to start with 5 cards and make one vanish. Dan prefers to start with 6 and makes one vanish. You get enough cards to perform Dan's 6 card version and this allows you to perform my 5 card version if you would like. Both routines are taught in detail. You have the flexibility to do the routine that fits you best.
"I felt the same as Malinj63. most people know the vanishing of one card you think after showing a few cards (use different almost similar looking card)."
You are referring to the original Princess Card Trick here. The gimmicks provided with Princess on the Go allow you to vanish the thought of card, in the original Princess Card Trick you could only remove the thought of card.
"But can the cards be examined by the spectators immediately after the vanish? If can, then i would be interested and consider the 19.95 cost."
I provide an explanation for a card to impossible location in the download that ends with completely normal paper cards that can be completely examined. It works really well as a parlor piece but it could also work close up.
You show the cards, they think of one, you cause it to vanish and appear in an impossible location. They can remove it from that location, and you can give all of the cards out for examination.
There's a little more set up to do here but it is very practical. When I'm carrying the cards with me in my wallet I just make them vanish. The display at the end is convincing enough that I haven't ever had anyone ask to examine the cards.
You mention the price, part of the reason that the trick is at the price it is at is because the cards themselves are made of plastic. They will last you a long time because of this. Not only that, $20 to $30 is not an unheard of price for a packet trick with paper cards. Paper cards will wear out quickly in your wallet, these will last much longer.
Thank you Josh. Nicely explained.
