Max puts a lot of love and care into all of the effects he shows on this set. While he does perform
every effect, if you try copy his performances you'll have a bad time. Max has a very distinct style
and an impeccable sense of audience management. Instead, listen closely to the explanations. He
gives you every thought and subtlety that goes into the effect. Take the methods and find your own
way to perform them.
I'll also say a lot of these routines are longer and more suited for
the middle of a show. A couple may even be good closers. Most of them will require some preparation
beforehand, so if you're looking for hard hitting propless mentalism, look elsewhere.
My
favorite part by far was the series of interviews. It was incredible to listen to the reflections of
a one-of-a-kind master. The level of love and care he has for the craft is astounding, and it's
wonderful to hear him be himself. A Fabulous Monster is also a very interesting piece, and seemingly
only available on this set as it's been taken down from streaming.
The reason I took off
one star is that for $150, this should be a Blu-ray set. It is a culmination of Max's career thus
far, and should be celebrated as such. I would have loved to have been able to see all of the
content in high definition. Even when this was made in 2017, this shouldn't have been cost
prohibitive. Heck, I'd even part a bit more for the option.
