The underlay is not stiff. It grips the table top well. The surface of the pad is exactly the right depth. The black is very black—if you ever do **** magic on it, it will simply not be seen. I know that from experience. It is large enough to be very useful, but not so large that the ends hang over a performing table. Highly recommended.
