I was reluctant to buy this.
And I am reluctant to post this review.
I was reluctant to
buy because I am quite familiar with many of the memory systems out there and reading between the
lines I was prepared for a re-hash of existing methods.
I am reluctant to post because my
experience may not reflect yours so with that caveat...
First: this *is* a rehash of old
methods-- but a refreshing and updated one. It brings some old techniques and invites you to look at
them with 21st Century eyes.
Second: If you are locked in your room unaware of the world
around you-- this will be harder for you. If you love culture-- particularly popular culture-- if
you're passionate about the things you love-- this will be a breeze. YMMV.
Third: This
system is all about the "Pre-memory" work. Ignore them when they say there's no memorization needed.
There is-- but much of it is put on on the way. And if you take the time to do the work up front--
it is really very easy to do the work when it comes time to memorizing your stack. They have
provided a number of examples that are really useful and ready to use. I have adapted a couple and
invented a couple of my own. This will make sense when you read it.
Fourth: Ignore the 60
min, 30 min talk. Sure I suppose it's possible but if you're doing the necessary work it'll take
longer-- not days longer... but longer.
Fifth: There will remain-- after you memorize your
deck order-- a great deal of time before you'll be able to use it for anything more than a
demonstration of your ability to memorize a deck. To use it, say, in an effect that you're required
to know what the 12 card after the 23 card is... The system they provide-- an revised memory
palace-- works just as it should-- but there will still be work needed to know instantly the
position number of every card...
Sixth: I have memorized my Tom Crosbie stack in less than
24 hours of purchasing this... only a couple hours of concentrated work and I haven't watched a
single video yet. The PDF is more than necessary. I haven't read the effects yet but I can say, as
an owner of the Dominic Obrien system, a couple Harry Lorayne books, and the Memory Arts pdf. I am
very happy with my purchase.
This is a system that will serve magicians, mentalists,
mnemologists well.
UPDATE: It's the day after I memorized and recited all the cards in order. And without any "refresher" I was able to recite the order with very little stumbling.
Also, I looked at the ACAAN shared-- it's a great ungimmicked handling.
I also started watching some of the videos... there's lots of additional information on them.
So all-in-all a terrific value.
Thanks for the detailed assessment.
Wow thank you for the review. You not only covered everything, but you mentioned you are working on the Tom crosbie stack, and that is very exciting to read. I have had such admiration for Tom's stack, which is now out of print, but it has been really tough to memorize. This review seems to show that it would be worth it to purchase this JUST to be able to do Tom's shadow stack (this is taught in his DVD release recall if anyone is lucky enough to find a copy). Thank anonymous reviewer!!!!!
