As a kids and family magician, I found this lecture to be great value. Three of these routines went
straight into my current magic shows.
Fancy Ketchup - okay this initially appealled to me
because I already owned everything needed for the routine(apart from the labels that Josh
reccommends, which I have now bought and recommend), but I have found it to be a lot of fun,and the
kids really get into it. Also a pretty quick reset.
Reactions - this is the emoji one, easy to
do, packs small, fast reset. Audience enjoys playing along, reactions for the ending not always huge
with the younger audiences but good with older kids and parents. It was suggested in the lecture
that you could re-use the cards as "cue cards" later in your show, I have tried a little with mixed
reactions but feel that could work well the more I use this.
Water Gun Roulette - this is the
clear favourite with my audiences.I have put it into two shows and am loving it. Yes it takes longer
to set up and definetly takes up some room, but has been well worth it for me. I also have added an
extra water gun for swapping out at the end - when a child calls out I didn't get wet I go back
behind my table, grab it and give them an extra squirt. To clarify I am in Australia in the middle
of a hot Summer working at Holiday Parks with this, so getting kids wet hasn't been a problem for
me. Not sure I will use this in winter? You would obviously have to assess your own situation and
wether this routine would be practical for your shows.
In the future I will also try "Off the
grid" which is the Magic Square trick, I believe that would get good reactions, but am yet to try
it.
Josh was well presented very likeable and went into each trick with excellent detail.
I
definetly have a different performing style to Josh and not every trick is one I will perform but
having three go instantly into my current shows, blows me away and has been great value for money.
Really wish Penguin did more Family Magic Lectures.
Thanks Josh, loved the lecture
