This is an easy and difficult review.
To start, the item itself is no secret as to the gimmick,
as it has been very upfront as to what it is and what it does. It’s quite comical to read critique
from people who don’t even own it! It is not something new and there are multiple versions. If it’s
not your thing it’s not your thing! I went for it because I was hopeful of a more innovative and
streamlined version, and when it comes to the creators, I was definitely highly interested in their
unique thinking and routines which is where the strength of this project comes into play.
The
design of the gimmick went through multiple design changes and why it took so long to get released.
The design is excellent and with practice you’ll be getting some reactions like Javier and Lloyd.
You will love this project if you like your creative juices flowing and it shows in the footage how
many ideas popped up in the middle of filming.
My only gripe would be with the material chosen
for the gimmick, as its made from the same material as every small packet trick wallet that
eventually frays at the edges! They mentioned they tried tyvek and I really wish they stuck with
that, unfortunately it wasnt possible to mass produce. They mention they went for functionality over
looks, but durability is an important factor for any edc item.
Overall Im very happy with the
tutorial material and collaborative ideas!
Go through the whole tutorial and practice,
practice, practice! These guys have shared a passionate project with us that deserves the attention
to detail it takes to share what appears to be “real magic”
Some of the best insights I've gotten on this project now I'm wondering if cheetah is the stronger product based on strength of the gimmick alone.

Thank you for mentioning cheetah as I had not seen that one. What material is that made out of? And how easy is the retrieval? Someone mentioned thin cards are used? Dex uses normal cards. The design of Dex does make it very simple to locate and retrieve as well as keeping the cards snug. Visualizing where the card is located before going for it helps with any system, Dex has a unique feature that separates each card slightly to assist in locating.
There are a few things that make DEX the better choice in my opinion. The single biggest is that it's single pocket.
Both have pros and cons. The 50/50 double-Cheetah is useful and so is a single-DEX. The DEX design is great, but the material is pretty bad, and the glue is not preferred. Cheetah is very well made, it uses a very flexible, polymer like the cover of a folder/notebook you would use in collage or for a business. The DEX digitals are very good however I feel a 2.o upgrade for the unit itself is needed. I have no problem with half of a deck in one pocket and the other half in another pocket via Cheetah. Cheetah will definitely outlast DEX physically. Lloyd and javier are cool dudes, I hope they update it as it's not quite there yet but it's close.
Weighing in on Dex versus Cheetah. Obviously, I have much more time with Cheetah over Dex, but there is no easy comparison. Both are great products, but I would personally lean towards Cheetah primarily for quality of construction and price point. Once we get the inevitable Dex 2.0, that may change.
Pros for Dex: single pocket design; "smoother" action to remove cards (I find myself doing less obvious fiddling in my pocket to get the right card); fantastic tutorial full of concepts, routines, bonus moves, etc.
Pros for Cheetah: price point; durability of gimmick; consistency of results (this may be due to time spent with each, but I have a 100% confidence in my ability to get the correct card with Cheetah; with Dex I'm still occasionally missing, and certain cards are more difficult to retrieve than others); Cheetah accounts for the Aces, which I wish Dex did.
I also use the Advocate system, which, overall, has the biggest advantage of being a "system" rather than a device. Since it is a simple do-it-yourself construction, I have numerous scattered around. Overall, this may be the best option....
JRod - they didn't just use the same material as packet wallets are made from - They actually just purchased those cheap vinyl wallets and glued them together. Nothing innovative or clever about it.
Hey bearskinrug10 thanks for layin' it down like that.
