"Only 52" by Dani DaOrtiz is a card trick with a solid concept and detailed explanation, but it
falls short in execution due to one glaring issue.
Let's get straight to the point: there's
a move (not a sleight, but you'll know it when you see it) involving a single card that sticks out
like a sore thumb. It's so suspicious that it's hard to imagine pulling it off without raising
eyebrows. I've spent some time trying to brainstorm ways around it, like palming the card, but
haven't found a satisfactory solution yet.
Despite this major hiccup, I have to give credit
where it's due. Dani's explanation is thorough, and he walks you through each step with clarity. The
trick has potential, and the concept behind it is fun and intriguing.
However, until that
problematic move is addressed, I can't bring myself to perform "Only 52." It's just too risky in its
current state. I'll keep tinkering with it in the hopes of finding a workaround, but for now, it
remains on the shelf.
In summary, while the trick has promise, IMO its execution leaves
much to be desired. Proceed with caution, and be prepared to improvise if you decide to give it a
go.
The "move" with the one card gets passed off as a joke. So you are right, if you can't deliver that line with the right kind of style, it won't work. But if you can deliver it with the right humor, then it will fly by unnoticed because of some of the other layers that exist within the structure of the trick.
There are other ways to solve the problem. You need to ask this question in the discussion section and someone, including me, can give you a few suggestions. I just can't do that here.
