He provides the replacement item you need to fix the trick and explains it in detail during the video. He literally "breaks" it on purpose and fixes it on the video. Takes 45 seconds to renew it.
No, I didn't ask for a replacement. Do they do that?
And yes, Mark does tell you how to repair with a number of special 1mm magnetic and the proper size needle. I asked does Mark sell this repair kit and never got an answer.
I really don't like tricks that break so easily.
After I was practicing the first time for just a few minutes, both cards ripped along the fold lines. I never got a chance to perform this. I’m not sure how it can be expected to fold, unfold, re-fold the cards, and not have them rip along the seams. Granted, I didn’t buy this from Penguin, but I don’t see now the quality can vary from vendor to vendor. The cards I received were regular Bicycle cards, not cheap knock-offs.
I would maybe try to contact Mark and see if he can help you find out where to get the elastic thread, but other than that, I think it's a really great trick! And as with anything that you need to do regular maintenance on, whether it be your car, lawn mower or something along that nature, if you treat it with care, you won't have to do anything to it for a while.
