This is a great lecture with excellent material. While the material is varied for both close up and
stand up, and I was particularly interested in stand up material, and there is a lot to love here.
My favorite pieces:
- Hold It Buster: a classic Harlan routine that I've learned before,
but never took the time to really properly learn or perform. Dan provides a little more guidance,
including a pneumonic that may making learning the patter a bit easier. I might actually give this
one a try, it's super fun. The arts and crafts involved in making up the gimmicks are super easy.
- Win/Win: I'm still trying to wrap my brain around how this one works, but there's so much
to unpack here, and just as much to love. This is such of a funky trick with deviously creative
thinking.
- Right Brain/Left Brain: this feels like it might have been included as a
throwaway, but I think it's the star piece of the lecture. This is a wild trick with an incredible
principle, and it's classic Dan Harlan thinking. I LOVE this trick.
The only negative of
this lecture (but it's not enough to knock it down from a five star review) is that the gimmick of
having Dan interview himself got old really quick, and I just wish they'd have had someone else
actually interview Dan for a real interview. But it wasn't awful, and the real heart of the lecture
is material Dan was presenting earlier, so I'm more than satisfied with this purchase.
