This is my favorite out of the appearing items such as this. I like it better than the pole as it
looks more like a drinking straw than the pole looks like a piece of wood. This may be preferrence
on my part. Also I think that the drinking staw is something that the spectators can relate to more
than a piece of round lumber. I have them both and this is the one that I use. Good item especially
for kids shows. Not so good for living room shows as a result of the length making it a bit awkward.
Also putting it away afterwards makes it a bit obvious as you can't hide with it to easily.
Regarding spectators relating more to a straw than a piece of lumber, it all depends (as always) on your specific routine and presentation. I use a wooden pole a LOT at adult shows to make a flag magically appear from a bag, and then I say something about with a flag that size we should have a POLE for it, .... and then produce the POLE from the same bag!! Gets gasps! I then hook the flag on the pole and VOILA! Flag on a pole.
